Anyone using runit?

I want to give runit a try in Debian replacing sysvinit. I've recently checked it in Void Linux and the experience is very good, but all the Debian related documentation I've found is pretty outdated.

Any (somewhat recent) documentation you know about? Or someone having some experience with it willing to share some insights?

Thanks.

There's an init experiment thread around. Don't remember specifically if runit is in there. I've tested minit, and running openrc currently.

If I'm not wrong, Doesn't it run on top of sysvinit or systemd instead of fully replacing them?

Correct. But it's there!

Thanks, dkeg. This is why at first instance I'm leaning more towards runit. I guess I need to do some homework and see what are the pros and cons (or the point) of using openrc along with other init system.

openrc is easy to install (in the repo's). Takes 2 minutes. Give it a test!

Will do. I'm setting up an init test machine based on smoothie. Will have (at least) sysvinit, busybox, openrc and runit onboard to test and compare.

I followed the directions here: http://smarden.org/runit/

I did not migrate any services (because I do not plan to use this full-time) -- I just went as far as booting it to test. If I was going to take this any further, I'd probably look at how the services are implemented in Void.

Thanks, pidsley. That's exactly what I'm doing now. Re-studying void's services,

^ service management framework for using daemontools, runit, or its derivative here. A good place to steal runit scripts.
I ran s6-init on my crux install here are the files in case you're curious, since all daemontools derivative are similar in nature.

musl and busybox, eh? Sounds interesting.

BTW, There are currently Void isos with musl too.
