Google your problem first. Check the Wiki. Read the existing threads. It's okay to "hijack" an existing thread, yes! If your problem is not yet covered, open a new thread. To get the quickest possible help, mention the exact release codename in your post (uname -a is a good idea, too). Due to the lack of crystal balls, attach the output of lspci -nnk if you encounter hardware problems.

having experimental turned on does not automatically pull in stuff from experimental -- you need to set the "-t experimental" flag for APT to do so :)

the last posts were moved from Release Notes into this appropriate thread

Simply. Don't. :)

No, seriously, experimental is very dangerous when it comes to X stuff. You can grab a new version of e.g. nano or conky, nobody really cares if this breaks, but X... well, I don't care for X either, but it does make a difference if something is not installed or something is utterly broken via dependency hell.

Just did an install with experimental on. Okay so far, upgraded to the 4.4-towo and not able to reproduce previous problems but......I found out that systemd, shim, etc. is pulled in when gvfs is installed. Init is still sysvinit. No Xorg problems. Listening to "Go Mental" by the Ramones cuz I'm using experi'mental' and it was making me mental. LOL! Uhm, okay I'll just leave now and where the hell did I put my helmet??

1) gvfs pulls in systemd and even gtk3, see http://www.linuxbbq.org/bbs/viewtopic.p ... 829#p49829 -- I really recommend to stay away from gvfs. You can achieve whatever you want with on-board tools.

2) add following line at the end of your ~/.Xresources

#include </home/stan/.Xresources_colors>

save and exit, then enter

dkeger

and pick a theme.

Awesome, thanks for the on-board tools tip! I just re-installed and am going to use that and then start tweaking and installing packages. Cheers!
