Need to get 50.4 kB of archives.
After this operation, 338 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Went to go eject my trusty sr0 and couldn't believe this wasn't installed. I'd always assumed it was part of coreutils or something.
I suppose it's bloat on a netbook, vm, or single-board computer... but, is it just BORK! or is it left out of all spins? Just wondering.

What's the LinuxBBQ way of ejecting a CD/DVD-ROM drive from the command line?

I just press the button on the tray :)

It's been my experience with Debian for a while that sometimes pressing the button does nothing and sometimes causes the light to blink without doing anything useful...
Even without the disk mounted, and while out of all /dev working directories, eject has always been there for me in my time of need.
Pilots have had eject since 1929. If this were a space mission, we'd all be dead.

^ Except those with paper clips. ;)
Although to tell the truth I think it's been a good long while since I used a CD, except as a coaster.

No fucking idea. I killed mine with my own hands. :)

i agree that i'd always kinda expected eject to be part of some basic things. however, anything to do with CDs is a separate category really, so it kinda makes sense that way for eject to not be installed by default. as you can see from some examples here, lotsa people don't even use cds in the first place. me, i only use them when i'm ripping the audio to mp3 :)

CDs are on the verge of being obsolete. How many new computers have an optical drive reader? I haven't burned one in years. I also wonder if adding the user to the floppy cdrom user groups are actually needed for anything these days.

Off-topic: Why is this thread in the dump release section? If there is no reason for that I will move it elsewhere.

eject isn't installed because apt is installed. eject is also not generally installed by default in other Linux distros. At least not in funtoo (IIRC) and archlinux.

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php ... 54#p976854

The reason why it is not included on most LinuxBBQ releases by default: because I, machinebacon, do not use computers with a CDROM drive. I also don't install fdutils (floppy) or jazip (for Iomega Zip drives) on the base releases. If I would do so, I would have to make a remaster for every single user, which would be a bit too much unpaid work for me, sorry!

Hope it answers the question.

This makes sense... nice to know the reasoning.

Fair enough -- its only an apt away anyway.

Then we can close it. Apt is your friend as usual and it is not a support question. ;)
