keybd layout bug?

so this happens when i install mate, and gnome3 spins, not sure about the others. i select the right settings in the live-installer... UK keyb and so on.
installs fine, boot into it... ah US layout (@ and " are swapped)...
so dpkg reports the layout is UK, works fine in a tty...
so check the mate settings, says UK... hmm add UK, select that (apparently identical) layout
and it works fine...

Noticed the same and can't say if it's a vanilla bug, something about gconf-settings, or a problem with a udev rule, or what :)

I'll put in something for the next version of MATE that forces the layout, chosen in the installer, onto the installed system.

I have a keyboard layout bug in siduction no-x, too. 3 days ago, I have used my keyboard after a fresh install in a testing partition, and I don't know which keyboard layout I got. It was not the german quertz-latin-1-nodeadkeys. I noticed, that there was no "super-key" etc. which sucks hard, because most of my hotkeys are using super-key. :-)

So I build the whole locale/keyboard shit again using these four commands:
dpkg-reconfigure locales
dpkg-reconfigure console-setup
dpkg-reconfigure console-data
dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

Now, it works again. I think, there is a bug in the locales/keyboard-layout part of the siduction installer.

Guess that's udev related, because we don't use the siduction-installer :) The thing is that when the layout is chosen in live-installer, it works for the installer/live session, but not for the installed session. Gotta look into it, but shouldn't be too hard to fix :) Thanks for confirming

That right the 'test keyboard' field works fine, on install. TTY is fine.
Pretty sure its on baushspeck too.
I once got 'euro in GB not found.' When mucking around re-setting the thing.

Oh, my mistake. I have seen only fleetingly on the installer. Then the two errors have probably nothing to do with each other.

Using just the dpkg-reconfigure options doesn't solve the problem (completely), thou. See the thread "Virgin - cannot set Japanese keyboard layout" for additional info.

Gonna write up a quick guide for this, post it at my site and drop the URL to it in here ;)

Put "setxkbmap de" in the autostart of the DE/WM or globally as setxkbmap.desktop file in /etc/xdg/autostart or per user in ~/.config/autostart:

I resolve this bug in Enough! following the Arch wiki:

Add this line in /etc/xdg/lxsession/LXDE/autostart before @lxpanel --profile LXDE:
@setxkbmap -option grp:switch,grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll it

I see the keyboard don't have the italian layout in lightdm (maybe the german ?) but for me is not a problem

EDIT: I was playing with the first ISO of Enough! , now I'm downloading the Rev.1 :-)

I've had the same problem with a couple of distro-hopping distros lately.

Today I installed: linuxbbq-darkside64.iso (2013-05-27 20:38:23) and had a few problems.

During the install I chose: English Canada - perfect

next the Keyboard, I chose: Microsoft Internet Keyboard Pro - perfect

the next screen chose: Canada (French) for me (HUH but the same as the other distros) ... I changed that to:

Spanish (Latin America) and the sub option of the right: (the top) Latin America

it gave me two more screens of options where I wanted none of the options shown.

It messed up my keyboard. I have a backup: etc.default.keyboard.txt safely tucked away:

the two extra options I was forced to add something in XKBVARIANT="" & XKBOPTIONS="" that I need blank. One was "euro something" ...

So I copied my file to /etc/default/keyboard and BINGO - keyboard works.

sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration - does the same mess as the installer.

That cleaned up my keyboard problem, but not a fix for the installer though.
SO a suggestion, if you have a 'special' keyboard layout (don't we all) make a copy of the right file.
It's not hi-tech, but it works.

the problem is indeed in keyboard-configuration (the installer uses this dpkg function to set the keymap, too, that's why it repeats itself there)

I've got the same problems with the right ALT key being assigned twice, and stuff like this. I'll check out if there's a bug upstream or if we can assign something.

Q: when using that as root ... is the user added to the sudoers (?) list? Something I'm not fussy about. My wife and I share the same computer, same log in ... if I'm a noob ... she's - well, less.

My install of linuxbbq-darkside64 will not last long as I plan on deleting three partitions ... /dev/sda5 6 & 7 (6&7 have LBBQ), making sda5 smaller by 30GB and creating sda5 6 7 8 & 9.

5 will be what it is now - all my stuff - documents, conkys, images, videos etc accessible by distro I install.
6 / & 7 /home - will become a "backup" install in case my 'system' (1 & 2) craps out, and
8 / & 9 /home - to test shit!

the bbqinstaller (as root hahah) is great, i think anyway. maybe some tweaks...
Another great thing, as it copies the live system *any and all* changes made - keybd, themes etc are copied directly to the install.
so boot, roast(theme, install an app) install.
job done....

@sector11 - thats one of the tweaks! it copies the user 'bbq' exactly (sudoers and all) there is AFAICT no 'new' user.
you get a new root password (no, not a sudo passwd)
so theoretically a quick usermod and passwd change to one's liking and it's a go, ahh the changed user won't be on the sudo list.

After installing via BBQinstaller, there will be user 'bbq' and user 'root', both having the password you provide in the BBQinstaller's last step.

I've just written a HOWTO for the new "Tiny", basically stuff works the same in any BBQ release. There it's outlined how to add new users.
It's quite easy.
