Sorry if this one pisses someone off...but ]SOLVED]
I'm in the process of installing BBQ trollfinger (I think that's the official name, hehe) and everything's fine and dandy until I get to the part where it asks me to add the "/" root partition, I have no friggin' idea what that means (i'm still somewhat new to the whole gparted thing, i'm more of an easy point and click GUI guy....I once installed it successfully on my laptop but forgot how I did it later on. Can somebody share a link or something where it explains how to install BBQ Linux using gparted? OR better yet, share a link with me that goes deep into how the user's supposed to use gparted? I'm dying to solve this issue...I just want my hands on some good ol' bbq linux...

Nobody is pissed off by this question :)
First off: do you have "unpartitioned space" on your hard drive? If yes, use that to install BBQ on. Create an ext4 partition in the unpartitioned space inside of gparted, and then refresh the view in the installer (see link below!)
You can, if you like, open a terminal, enter "sudo fdisk -l" (that's a small L) and post the output here. As you wish.

Let me add one thing: choosing "/" for a partition will format it (it means, all data there will be lost). So, if:
- you have a few partitions, and no unpartitioned space, you can resize one of the partitions inside of gparted and create a 'free space'. Do not do this with Windows partitions, they might break. As next step, create an ext4 partition in the free space. Close gparted, refresh the view and use this spot to install / to.
- you have a few partitions and want to delete the content of one anyway, choose that one as / inside the installer, no need for gparted.
- you have unpartitioned space, open gparted, create a partition in this section and format it is ext4. Close gparted, then refresh the view, and choose this partition as /

dunno how basic you wanna go, but here's some simple info on the root directory, or "/": http://linuxbbq.org/wiki/index.php?title=Root_directory
when you 'assign /' in g-parted, you simply tell it where you want your filesystem to start. this depends on the stuff bacon said.

btw - even more basic - you have to right click on the partition you want to make / (your install partition) 8)
yes took me a good few minutes to work that out XD

But wux-honey, it's in the manual :)
Judging the OP's question what "/" means, I suppose he already found that right-clicking opens the menu where you can assign "/"...click on either an unpartitioned space or an existing partition and right-click. A little menu pops up.

now I'm all embarrassed - it really did take me ages to figure the rightclick out, and I didn't rtfm - didn't even know that there was a manual... oh yeah I remember.

Just want to say that I have finally & successfully installed bbq linux! Thanks for your help guys. Do I have to mark this thread as solved or what should I do with it?
Re: Sorry if this one pisses someone off...but
Congratulations! Yes, please mark this [solved] (edit the title of your first post).

I am so pissed off!!!! RAWR! I just bit a chunk of wood out of my desk and spit it across the room. I tore my shirt open and anger-braided my chest hair into corn-rows.
