We don't support installations in VirtualBox, VMWare, qemu or others. We ignore posts about WINE, PlayOnLinux, Steam and Skype. We don't support btrfs, lvm, UEFI, side-by-side installations with GPT or dualboot with anything newer than Windows XP.
Google your problem first. Check the Wiki. Read the existing threads. It's okay to "hijack" an existing thread, yes! If your problem is not yet covered, open a new thread. To get the quickest possible help, mention the exact release codename in your post (uname -a is a good idea, too). Due to the lack of crystal balls, attach the output of lspci -nnk if you encounter hardware problems.

Install Firefox?[solved]
Can't figure out how to install Firefox. Apt-get install firefox doesn't work, installed Synaptic, couldn't find it there either.

That's because this is Debian. We have Iceweasel.

Mucked around with downloading and unpacking the firefox download, never got it to work, couldn't open it from the terminal. Decided to try Iceweasel, seems to work OK, so I'll let it ride and see wht I think before going through the extra hassel it takes to jump through the extra hoops for Firefox.
I have Chromium, but Firefox has been working better than Chromium, for me on other computers. Saw that Tom's Hardware did a test, and Firefox edged out Google Chrome, although it was just by a tiny amount.

You got the package from Mozilla's site ... correct ?
There's likely your trouble ... recently went looking for x86_64 ... aka: 64bit firefox builds for linux myself anddddd the url I used to go to for whatever reason seemed to have stopped working. If you go to the mozilla site and download, you get a 32bit nix firefox and no, in my experience it won't work on a 64bit gnu/nix OS.
Go here and dig through until you find the 64bit firefox builds for gnu/nix and choose your language.
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/ ... /releases/ ... If you're looking for the current stable release of firefox it'd be v 22.0 o course. So scrollllllllll down until you find it, then click and click some more until you get into the directories holding the 64bit builds for gnu/nix and download this .... is the file you'd be after "firefox-22.0.tar.bz2"
Just meaning to say ... if you download it from mozilla's site ... WON'T WORK on a 64bit system. Well ... wouldn't w/o a buncha buttpains. Check out URL above, download the 64bit for gnu/nix build you want and go from there. Sir Ivan and myself have somewhat diff approaches ... both work regardless. Though one thing Sir Ivan and I have in common ... We both prefer plain ole Firefox over Iceweasel.

^ Yup. Yours pulls in the real fox repackaged, and the post above you the Iceweasel Beta and Aurora :) Different horse, same smell :D

These instructions will get you the latest firefox working perfectly in sid or any other Debian, I'm using firefox 22. Plus with these instructions there is no need for a Mint repo since you get the very latest fox directly downloaded from Mozilla.
I would also like to add that although at the end of the article he says to run fox as root to upgrade it when there are future updates, there is no need to do that. Best way when there is a new version, just go to mozilla.org download the new version, extract it and drop it in "opt" overwriting the old fox folder and your good to go with no reason to ever run firefox as root.
