wifi woes with gangbang

Unread post by wubzy » Mon Jul 15, 2013 6:41 pm

Hello to the good people of the fertile bbq land.
I like what MB is doing and would like to have some grill in paleo style. Now I experience connection problems with the wifi of the latest gangbang release.
Ceni scans but then shows that wlan0 is busy when I remove the /var/run/wpa_supplicant/wlan0
it finds my router but it does not connect.

I can still connect with my original linuxbbq.

It is like watching the grill going from a window and mouth is watering but not reaching the goodies !!

Hi Wuzby, iyi aksamlar arkadas!

can you show us:

lspci -nnk | grep net
ping -c 3 8.8.8.8

so we can find if they device is faulty or the setup. By all means, remove the previous configuration in Ceni, and prefereably assign a hard DNS like 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4

Should be overwritten by ceni. Else simply remove the lines below the loopback device

Hi I could not connect to internet with the gangbang but the output that I got from Studex with the same machine is below: the difference is when ping it does not connect.

wubzy@broom:~$ lspci -nnk | grep net

This is /etc/network/interfaces: ( it is the same in studex and gangbang after I run Ceni) I spent 4 hours yesterday and tried different dns settings that Machine Bacon suggested but I could not figure it out. I guess I am still one standart deviation below under the curve.

# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wpa-psk xxx
wpa-ssid ASUS

/etc/network/interfaces looks fine, and hide your pass phrase for the public.

Huh, I really have no idea, dear Sir.
Gangbang is built on the same branch like the Virgin/Trollinger-base. Especially, since it's a standard Realtek card... it should be supported by the kernel (which is the newest).
Give me some time look into it, thank you!

Edit: Oh what an idiot I am. Of course, WiFi is not the Realtek Network controller. Can you post the name of the wireless device? Secondly, is ethernet no option? ;)

wubzy,
please post the output ot

Code: Select all

inxi -N
or the full

Code: Select all

lspci -nnK
By the way, there must be some firmware drivers in the home folder (/home/bbq/firmware-b43) for these occasions.

I have no nonfree driver based on prior variants of linuxbbq and other distros
No worries MB I already am quite satisfied with your approach to linux and debian environment. If this does not work another edition will. Take good care of yourself.

That's weird, iwlwifi should be there and it's loaded (driver in use). Can you, as root

modprobe -r iwlwifi ; modprobe iwlwifi

And try Ceni again? I'm buffled :)

modprobe -r iwlwifi ; modprobe iwlwifi
for modprobe -r iwlwifi it says FATAL iwlwifi is in use and modprobe iwlwifi runs ok
after that ceni scan is stuck and I remove /var/run/wpa_supplicant/wlan0 and re run the ceni it goes ok until DHCPDISCOVER which runs 3-4 times and then ceni completes that is different than with the standart linuxbbq
then it does not connect

Sorry, no idea. The base is absolutely the same like previous releases. different is the kernel. Don't know what to do now :) I'll check later when I'm back home.

Really weird but I had that once with iwlwifi on a newer kernel. Try this, remove this line from /etc/network/interfaces, it helped me and reboot:

Code: Select all

allow-hotplug eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp

maybe a stupid suggestion but i haven't seen anyone mention rfkill yet... i know i had to use that shit once to get my wifi to work, because the card was somehow 'softblocked' (which you can undo with rfkill)... no idea if that could be the case here though, don't remember the circumstances.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I tried the rfkill and tried ivanov's suggestion now went back to the wired connection and experimenting with all the WMs and enjoying them.

Warm regards.
