Installed k3b; "no optical device found"[solved]

Forum rules

To get the quickest possible help, mention the exact release codename in your post (uname -a is a good idea, too). Due to the lack of crystal balls, attach the output of lspci -nnk if you encounter hardware problems.

or maybe... hmm mate's ok.
it was a bbq spin, could have been darkside... next time i run into it, i'll post it. unless i've fixed it (unlikely)

Just installed Xfburn, I think it installed and burned the cd faster than k3b downloaded. Probably doesn't come as a surprise to anyone, k3b seemed to take like 20 minutes just getting all the files.

Still no idea what the problem was with k3b, but hey, I got something that burns plastic beer coasters, so I'm happy. Solved, I guess.


Edit; I'm using Mate, 64 bit.

That is correct. HAL is one of the many things that broke the "cb-exit" scripts.

should do :D Then run again

machinebacon's code worked. Checked disc usage before removal, was 45%. After removal, went down to 41%. this is on a 10 gig partition.

i installed k3b - so yeah pretty much KDE 8)
i was more concerned about losing skype and vlc 8p

Then remove the k* and libk* packages from the list above, as well as phonon, soprano and nepomuk packages manually, one by one, then get yourself deborphan, run sudo orphaner, and clean up :)
