[SOLVED] Clock lags even with NPT installed

To get the quickest possible help, mention the exact release codename in your post (uname -a is a good idea, too). Due to the lack of crystal balls, attach the output of lspci -nnk if you encounter hardware problems.

OK, you were right. Now there is exactly (to the second) a 5 minutes difference between hardware and software clocks. The hardware clock is lagging half an hour with respect to the actual time.

Now, is this a hardware problem? And, if it is, what are the possible causes?

I have tried plenty of things and I do not think that any of them worked.

The last thing was replacing the Orage applet with Xfce default Time & Date applet in the panel.

That was a couple of hours ago. Every since then, the computer clocks are in good synchrony...

I can't help you with your problem but would be interested to know the specs of your laptop.

Good luck.

OK, I think I have found the culprit. I hope, at least.

When the LinuxBBQ first started in console mode, I edited /etc/network/interfaces to add eth0 in order to have a working internet connection.

Then I installed the system and forgot about it.

My guess is that having eth0 configured that way results in the ntp daemon trying to start before the network is ready and failing (maybe because it "thinks" that the network is ready when it is not)...

Removing any eth0 configuration from /etc/network/interface seems to allow ntp to wait for the network to be up.

Well, this is just a wild, uneducated, guess ;-) but this far it seems to work...

Side note:
- network configuration can be done via "Ceni"
- there is "bbq" which opens a CLI menu, in which stuff like network time syncing can be carried out

I'd like to emphasize that there is no need to run a ntp daemon for a single sync.
