1. do these cookies come with chocolate chips (magnifying glass) / I can barely make out the font in the terminal / with a magnifying glass.

2. for as many times as I have configured for a "latam" keyboard .. i am stuck on a US layout. :(

for the chrome issue, cd into /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ and you'll see the chrome source. Its seperate from the bbq.list. Well, it was that way in colin. Just remove it, if that's what you want. I did.

For the duplicate, from the above message check /var/lib/apt/lists. You may have a chrome source entry there.

What do you mean locale isn't set? keyboard is off? Timezone not set? I just seemed to solved minor issues for myself regarding timezone and keyboard, so if that's it, I can pass that along.

@ dkeg - thanks for replying ...

OK ... for the chrome stuff I found that .. in two places:

Code: Select all

/etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome.list
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-chrome-unstable.list
... they got commented out .. almost commented out the line in

Code: Select all

/LBBQ/etc/apt/sources.list.d/slavino.list
until I saw yad - much better than zenity.

Next with the keyboard, I could not figure that out for the life of me. I even edited "/etc/default/keyboard"
with a known working file:

Code: Select all

# KEYBOARD CONFIGURATION FILE

# Consult the keyboard(5) manual page.

XKBMODEL="microsoftpro"
XKBLAYOUT="latam"
XKBVARIANT=""
XKBOPTIONS=""

BACKSPACE="guess"
and it still came up "US layout" arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

Looking to stop tint2 (I use centre-mouse click), I found: ~/.config/openbox/autostart

Code: Select all

#!/bin/sh
xrdb -merge ~/.Xresources &

## setxkbmap us &
setxkbmap latam &
hsetroot -fill /home/bbq/Images/wall.png &
xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr &
# tint2 &

# sleep 3s && volumeicon &
and that fixed that ... next I'll comment out the line completely and see if /etc/default/keyboard actually takes over. :D

I believe 'locale' is set .. it was just the keyboard.

My next 2 problems;
  • why "gksu gui-app", "gksudo gui-app" or "sudo gui-app" don't work. I tried two: leafpad and disk-manager, and
  • how to increase the font size in the terminal, I am 'literally' using a magnifying glass to see what I'm doing. My wife thinks it's great fun!
To whoever baked "cookies" (I know it a team effort here) KUDOS! It's one slick hunk of stea ... ummm ... errrr ... pastry!

It needs a new name ... "haggis" would be neat! Nothing like a "good" haggis!

Hey old friend ... This is "Cookies" (linuxbbq-cookies.iso)

URxvt I think ... not 100% sure.

I need to install that? OK, right after "Sleepy Hollow" (30 minutes more)

in your .Xresources you'll see (I'm guessing, as that is what colin had, and tis small, but it definitely is clean)

Code: Select all

*font: -*-clean-*-*-normal--10-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
you can replace with say

Code: Select all

*font:     -*-terminus-medium-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
*lineSpace: 1
which is what I use, or you can simply use

Code: Select all

*font: xft:monospace: size=9
I'm watching colin, while on colin, so no sleepy hollow for me. And to sir ivan's sig, colin would agree.

edit: I see ivan already responded, and made me think, of course also in documentation, after changes made to .Xresources

Code: Select all

xrdb merge ~/.Xresources
and open new terminal instance to see changes.

Thing is, we have so many releases and you can easily overlook what is inside the package.

Yes, urxvt sounds reasonable.
To change the fonts you have to configure ~/.Xresources or ~/.Xdefaults. If that file is not provided already, create it.

The fonts part, an example:

Code: Select all

URxvt*font: -*-terminus-medium-r-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
URxvt*boldFont: -*-terminus-medium-r-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
For more, look at our excellent documentation:

http://linuxbbq.org/wiki/index.php?title=Urxvt

Edit: Drew beat me to it.

That's cute ... He's one cute lil (?) guy. I think Colin will be agreeing with Sir Ivan for a while yet.

I can SEE!!!! Thank you .. this old grandfather can see terminal without a magnifying glass.

Mission completed:
S11 learned about
- .Xresources
- the modularity of /etc/apt/sources.d/
- post images using the PrtScr button ;)
- locales can be set manually in the /etc/locale.gen file ;)
- the magic of .xinitrc

Congratulations :D

Hi Again Ivan ...

I have only ever had to "edit" an ~/.Xresources file one in all the time I've used Linux ... and that was only a few days ago. :D

~/.Xdefaults has been a bit more often.

Never thought about checking the wiki, I was really freaking out at having to use a magnifying glass to see stuff. Wife thought that was kinda funny! :( That font is (was) finer then the legalize fine print in an insurance policy.

BTW, gksu is now installed but will not run "disk-manager" and if I try leafpad everything freezes up ...

Code: Select all

[blah blah not responding] [Kill process?]
It's a learning process .. and this resident noob is going to enjoy it.

Despite the Oopsies! I like "Cookies" better than the other OB roasts ... just a first impression thing, it's only been here for a few hours, but first impressions count.

I have a feeling it will be re-installed again as my "home" is bbq not sector11

Mission completed? What you created Cookies with speed bumps for me?
I'm honoured. :D

But .... Not quite, with this;

- .Xresources

- - a few days ago for the first time but for something else. This was new

- the modularity of /etc/apt/sources.d/

- - yea, ran into it once before ... but your entry in the Menu only shows:
/etc/apt/sources.list.d/bbq.list
- - it didn't show the other five files in there - so while I thought I had checked the sources.list - I missed some "parts"
- - another learning process.

- post images using the PrtScr button ;)

- - No ... I used SCREENSHOT in OB Menu and then posted the images from http://postimage.org/
- - ... but I will check that out now. It doesn't work on my main OS.

- locales can be set manually in the /etc/locale.gen file ;)

- - did not know that ... I used the menu entry (but I see it now)

- the magic of .xinitrc

- - no; I have no idea ... ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... Nope:

Code: Select all

# you can put this block into the ~/.config/openbox/autostart
# or uncomment it here.
I saw it in ~/.config/openbox/autostart

Damn BBQCookies has that US keyboard branded all over the place and in places that come up after:
/etc/default/keyboard
so while "/etc/default/keyboard" had 'latam' it gets beat out by:
~/.config/openbox/autostart
~/.xinitrc

Learning ... I'm learning ... :D
Now it feels like: Mission completed Started!

Try to open the freakin' disk manager as root and let's see if it works, use su and then the command for it. Maybe it will tell us why it does not like you. :P

And assure that you use the correct root password. Do you execute it from the command line or with Alt + F2?

I think that user "bbs" != "bbq". (look at the error's path vs the user's name, unless I'm missing some step.)
