cfdisk gone cukooo

Unread post by akts » Mon Oct 14, 2013 1:41 am

I have no idea, if this is just my specific problem on not, but here it goes. When ever I tried to partition my disks using cfdisk from the cookies iso, the partition that I lastly create, wont commit(ie... after specifying the size then I get the bash prompt!!). No chance to commit/write :(

Also the proof iso after creating a bootable usb stick and booting from it gives a kernel panic.

What does 'not commit' mean? Have you rebooted afterwards? All changes are visible after reboot. Check the "info cfdisk":
`w'
Writes the changes in the partition to the disk and notifies the
operating system to reread it. Do this after you have completed
editing your partition table. This might destroy data on your
disk, if you have deleted partitions, and so on, so be careful. If
the partition table is not re-read correctly by the operating
system, you should reboot your computer.
But yes, cfdisk is shaky. Try fdisk /dev/<devicenode> if you are brave.

About the kernel panic: no idea. forget Proof, it is a year old already. Better rebuild from Tiny.

Alrighty, about cfdisk
1. Assume you have to add the last remaining space as a partition.
2. Highlight it, then select new, then the size and when I press enter the bashprompt is what I get!

Well, it is not a bbq application, I can not fix it. everything about it should be posted on the bugtracker of debian or to the developers. Or use google, I found several thousand similar topics.
