I smell fish.

Lesson 14: Guess what the problem is.

No kidding, you will find it out. "ifup: command not found", but "sudo ifdown" was found.

try the 8.8.8.8 DNS name server in Ceni with your wifi-network, I had something like that once.

Lesson 12: Figure out what the commands actually do.
Lesson 13: Figure out whether the commands worked as intended.

EPIC thread lol.
I think this is a basic network howto, I think we covered everything possible for network config.
At least we didn't have to walk through wpa_supplicant (CLI)
Solved? Do we get a coffee?

man, coffee is for closers only, so I will go to bed without. Have spent many hours today, trying to connect using ceni, gnome network manager, wicd and terminal. With no luck. I have been googling and using man quite a lot.
I know the right driver is installed. I know the network is open. I have tried all possibilities when it comes to setting up /etc/network/interfaces. I can get the network turned on, I can find the essid. Its open and I can get a connection. But when I try to fetch the ip adress it fails every time. At the same time my wifes old dell with xp on it, gets the ip every time very easy.
.....
coffee!!!!!!! I just stumbled around a bit more. Uninstalled the gnome-manager and bang vicd created a connection for me. I read in some thread, that I need some configuration, to make it happen everytime, but for now I will just enjoy, and sleep.
