Getting started with n00b ki11ah

Unread post by RandomCharacter » Tue Nov 19, 2013 6:57 pm

Ok, I'm already too dumb. This is my first attempt at installing a BBQ release. I don't know how to start the install. I looked at the wiki, but for some reason I can't see any real content, just image files.

I can get logged in as root while booted to the iso. That's as far as I can get. I have no idea what to do next.

Tim

PS - Wait - Am I supposed to log in as linuxbbq?

To correct ivan, username and password are always "bbq" (without the linux). ;)

the live-installer is dead isn't it?
Long live

Code: Select all

bbqinstaller
as root, to install, read each option carefully, before hitting enter.
useful to have your partitions set already, with a note to the one you want to install on. (yes i have installed in the wrong place before) and if you have a separate /home, tell the installer to leave it alone. after that it's plain sailing.

So it is possible to tell the installer not to format a separate /home. Damn, total noob as usual.

Ok, I have it installed and have completed some configuration (regular user, network, local time, radeon dpm, probably more stuff that I've already forgotten).

n00b killah is very cool, indeed. I am running in 114 MB RAM in Openbox with a terminal window open. It ran in 105 before I configured my wireless connection; is that normal?

Anyway, I'm going to try to remain true to the spin and keep it ultra light. Thank you to all who worked on creating it.

Yes, I suppose wifi is bloat. It's easy enough to turn it off. I'm trying to wrap my head around my next configuration tasks. I'm going to try very hard to keep this installation non-bloated. We'll see where that leads.

Thanks about the picture!

I can't figure out the tmux configuration. ^b just writes "^b" to the terminal, it doesn't let me control tmux. I thought I would just copy tmux.conf from my Siduction installation, where tmux works perfectly, but I could not find one! No /etc/tmux.conf, no ~/.tmux.conf. WTF???

I'm going to try list-keys in tmux on n00b killah. Has ^b neen unbound in LinuxBBQ?

What a mess. ^b was unbound in ~/.tmux.conf, but I removed that and it still didn't work. So, I looked at /etc/tmux.conf and damned if it wasn't commented out there, too. So, taking a hint from my Siduction system, I deleted both of them and now tmux works. :)

awesome beard and pic Tim!

nice spin choice!

I set my tmux as CTRL-c, don't remember why, good distance maybe. Didn't like CTRL-a and CTRL-b is too far. guess c was right in between

Work hard; Complain less
