How can I tell which spins will update to a new kernel using Dist-upgrade?

I'm not sure if any do.
I think some old ones do.

I think wux is right; most, if not all of the spins have a set kernel. It is easy to change any of them to use a rolling kernel (always installing the latest available). For example, to always use the latest vanilla Debian 686 kernel, just install "linux-image-686" or "linux-image-686-pae" and update grub to pick up the new kernel.

Thanks. My Trollinger install updates, didn't know whether any others. I checked Debian's kernel upgrade guide, was astonished to see so many options. Up to that pont, I'd always thought that a kernel was just one single, invariable thing. The Debian guide made me think that I'd stumbled into Gentoo!

my trollinger also automatically updates the kernel as does bakewell.

See mb's post below for how to (un)do it

Right, it must have been around 3.7 that I changed to static kernel in the releases because they started to misbehave.

sudo apt-get install linux-image-siduction-686(-pae) will give you rolling kernels.
