While still pondering about an e-book reader, I'm with this at the moment:
Using
Geiser and
Chicken Scheme for the exercises, of course. :)

Ok, finally got me a Kindle Paperwhite. I already uploaded many books, there isn't much I could add to the reviews out there: it's really good. Calibre does wonders too. Thanks for the tips, guys.

^ Thanks for the feedback. So you can read PDFs straight or do you have to convert and crop? :)

^ Some of them just works out of the box. When I'm not that lucky, I convert them.
So far only one PDF didn't work, despite all the conversion tricks I tried. I guess it's because of its layout: multi-column pages, huge images. 1 out of more than 20, though, so I won't rant about it. ;)

Hopefully the missing link between the basic knowledge and the real world experience.

Not sure if I already posted this, not an e-book per se but you can download everything to PDF or just read online, a fantastic source of history.

^ We already posted the handbook in this thread, not really a how-to. I keep it organized. ;)

simgin, thanks for asking -- see my sig. Also see
here. I often use Oppenheimer as my avatar -- he is a personal hero of mine, as much for his flaws as for his achievements. My current avatar is Roscoe G. Dickinson, who was Linus Pauling's doctoral advisor.
GekkoP, that is one of the better Oppenheimer biographies. If you want to read more about the history of the Manhattan project, go here first:
Richard Rhodes is (IMO) one of the best documentary writers out there. He got the Pulitzer Prize for that book, so I must not be alone in that opinion.
And, as it happens, the
Trinity test was 70 years ago last week (July 16, 1945.) It is hard to believe that we haven't blown ourselves up yet.

^ Thank you for the tip, added to my list. I'm around chapter 9 of the Oppenheimer biography: beautifully written and very, very interesting.

A classic I've ignored for so many years. Essential reading for anyone interested in getting better at writing in English.
