A Quiet Hello

Unread post by 57kev » Sat Mar 01, 2014 2:12 am

Hello All,
Longterm lurker here and over at CB before the exodus, Linux user from the tern of the century.
I wanted to thank MB for all the wonderfull spins here, bloody fantastic, I like to use them to show some of the young dropkicks I work with (Uni trained Microsoft teat suckers, Apple biters) that there is more to computing than some bloated shiny finger wiping monstrosity, though the mainstream(sic) distros seem to be heading in the same direction. Oh Well, lucky we have a choice, eh.

Anyway not here to rant, just to say hello and thanks to MB and all who contribute here.

Cheers,
Kev

Thanks for the welcome all.
On the young blokes and girls, if you mention linux they immediately ask if you use *buntu. Seems Canonical's publicity machine works if nothing else.
The company I work for does Dell, Lenovo and HP warranty service, once the techs realize they can quickly boot a fast non windows OS like CLiT off a usb stick, couple of quick commands to check hardware or user destroyed windows install, they pick up on it pretty quick.
Ivanonegro , yeah took a while to have something to say, I find as most fora that I frequent are northern hemisphere, any help threads have been answered by all you clever folk before I am awake and I am not one to post a +1 to help the post count.
My mother taught me that if you can't say something constructive then say nothing.

But now the flood gates have opened anything is possible. :-)

Cheers,
Kev

Sounds I might update the CLIt :)

Any other typical checking tools that should be included, kev? 486/686/amd64? It's done quickly.

IIRC yes, and I can add "your" chkrootkit. We could make this stick also have some penetration testing tools (and an Xsession with some kind of anonymous browser. Would end up with a 330-350MB ISO, so it is not a real problem - or have a 'lite' version noX only)

oh yeah 8D - chkrootkit, you have an excellent memory 8)
The worst problem we have at work is when the HDD's go screwy and grub goes mad.
we normally end up putting knoppix live CD in a cdrom. can't think why we dont use USB sticks.

Well, grubrepair is in every BBQ. I found dares (in the repos) to be an excellent tool to recover scratched CD/DVDs. testdisk/Photorec is anyway included.

Anyway, shoot me a list (anybody who reads this and wants to have an update to CLIt) and I will add it.

Morning all,
Yeah, updated version would be very nice.
Nice shiny new kernel to pick up newer hardware.
Thank you MB.
