yeah - sorry to re-initiate that curiosity Ivan.
battle tested a few of the companies sites today, that's why I'm in a grump about it.
and why I posted here. :)

^^ Ivan et al.:
"Black Friday" is a most excellent song by that most excellent US rock group, Steely Dan. (Best YT link I can find is this rough studio outtake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbjFbGwsXak)
Probably you've gathered that it's also a horrible US pseudo-holiday marking the official start of the Xmas shopping season. It only makes any sense as an event if you celebrate US Thanksgiving the day before (not the silly Canadian one that happens in October). Thanksgiving used to mean no stores were open. It was a serious US national holiday. That's not true anymore. A wonderful holiday about eating turkey and pies and with family and friends has been overwhelmed by the commercial juggernauts of Halloween and Xmas.
Black Friday makes no sense outside the US, and here, it's a total shit-fest that brings out absolutely the worst in people. There are tramplings and fistfights in the stores over fake bargains.
Don't let it come to your country. It's pure poison.
[It's "Black," btw, because it's supposed to be when retail stores come out of the "red", i.e., show a profit for the year.]

Seems it's like the Double 11 in China, it's a mix of singles day and shopping day. An invention of the Alibaba Group. Is also repeated on Double 12.

Re: Have you tried turning it off and on again?
The only shop we went to was our local 'special school' charity shop (thrift store) I asked the lady who we know if she had any black friday specials, as a joke.
She proceeded to tell me about 'the one coloured boy' that she knew at the school...
ahh I <3 provincial towns :)

the Native Americans might disagree on this one :Dmaso wrote: A wonderful holiday about eating turkey and pies and with family and friends
however, whatever the historical shit behind it, i think it is actually pretty cool to have a day specifically for being thankful. i had my first Thanksgiving eve with 3 people I hardly know, and it was cool hearing all their stories about the past year etc. makes for interesting conversation.

A few possibilities crossed my mind... Dickie, Richie-ole-mate etc
one of our guys previously responded with just "Stallman, <reply>"

Re: Have you tried turning it off and on again?
The other way around is funny too sometimes..
About 15 years ago I was working at a local computerstore, and a customer had some troubles with his scanner.
To send this thing back to HP Netherlands you had to call for a 'RWA number'.
Normally you get the same story about 'have you tried this or that.. cleaning blabla'.
But...
'Bonjour monsieur...blablabla'
Damn HP Netherlands and a French dude on the phone that only speaks French?
I speak Dutch, English und sogar Deutsch.
But that... Merde!
