Hi everyone, good to be here!

Unread post by kelean » Fri Dec 28, 2012 10:31 pm

Hi I am Kelean. I have been using Linux for a number of years now. Mostly crunchbang and linux mint. I am going to install Saltimbocca on my Dell Latitude D800 laptop. This will replace my #! install as it does not like my wireless card but I have trouble with it on all distros except this one. I also want to make a snapshot for this machine as it is a pain to get setup with everything.

Looking forward to some fun and learning, thanks Kelean.

hi kelaen, welcome to the BBQ! i see you already helped yourself to the meat - that's the spirit we're looking for! :)

Be sure to check out the Wiki: http://linuxbbq.org/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
It is still in development, but it is very near to becoming the most central place for all the most useful information on the BBQ stuff.

Hey kelean,

welcome to the grill, really glad to see you here!

And I also have a good feeling, your Saltimbocca already smells excellent!

Thanks, i'm working on it. One question how do I change the date and time. I used the date command to change it but it reverted back to what it was after reboot. My time zone is correct and time and date in the bios are correct. I also tried to install ntp and related packages listed in the debian book but some of the packages were not in the repo's.

I tried to search the wiki, forum, and the internet but have found nothing yet. A point in the right direction would be great. Thanks Kelean.

Welcome to the Q!

If you have installed ntp it should just work. If not try:

Code: Select all

dpkg-reconfigure ntp
If it does not work at all, restart the daemon:

Code: Select all

sudo /etc/init.d/ntp restart
Maybe reboot.

To see if the daemon is running:

Code: Select all

sudo /etc/init.d/ntp status

Thanks ivanovnegro, seems I did not install ntp. I have it installed now and time is correct now. Kelean.

Code: Select all

sudo ntpdate 0.nl.pool.ntp.org
to sync the time every now and then ;)

welcome here, enjoy. i am a returning debian'r. used ubuntu for too many years but never ubuntu after 9.10 really but used 10.04 i seen it was falling bad. always used derivatives since then. debian has been good to me. i now have my 3 partitions with 2 debian installs and only 1 ubuntu (i switch TOO much) i need to keep. so i am here to help as well when i can. although alot of these guys are quick on their feet so i dont respond a ton lol. but yes you seem to know what your doing.
