Well, it will probably go unnoticed for most US guys ("Soccer") :D Nevermind, this is the WC2014 thread, we will post the results and match reviews and rants here.

So, it starts tomorrow, and these are the first games on Friday and Saturday:

Code: Select all

Fri: Brasil - Croatia
Sat: Mexico - Cameroon
     Spain - Netherlands
     Chile - Australia
You can use this code block to write in your tips...

These are mine:

Code: Select all

Fri: Brasil - Croatia 2 : 1
Sat: Mexico - Cameroon 1 : 0
     Spain - Netherlands 0 : 0
     Chile - Australia 3 : 0
Of course i will update the next matches in the next post before Sunday :)

^^ whoa a world cup thread nice job there !

Code: Select all

BRA - CRO 2:0
MEX - CAM 0:0
SPA - NLD not going to bet on this one
CHI - AUS 1:0
i think Germany or Brazil might prevail as the world cup winner this time, getting bored of watching Spanish athletes won everything these days ( from Xavi , Nadal , to Marquez )
rice no more.

NED plays with 532 or 523, so I guess they are a bit tighter in the back.

ivo, i dont root for any team, but i think your suggestion for NL - ESP is quite proper. i wouldnt be surprised if it ended in that. but, who knows? at least they have a trainer who once got Ajax to the world championship in 1995, but then again, the team is mostly players from Feyenoord, who loathe Ajax and not sure about their feelings about Van Gaal. we shall see!

^ that was Vincent van Gogh. then a couple years back his grandgrandgrandson or something, Theo van Gogh, was killed by a muslim in Amsterdam because he was being an offensive pig, and muslims do not enjoy those (and many other people dont, either). so, plenty going on in the Van Gogh family.

Van Gaal was the one who did the karate-kick to make clear to a referee what had just transpired (the referee didnt give out a card where he clearly should have):

Van Gogh, isn't that the one who spat on the black dude? ;)

(of course a lot of leg-pulling in this thread)

@gekkop agreed van gaal is a great manager , brilliant managers from Mourinho to Guardiola are both Van Gaal's students
and he reached champions league final with Bayern too although he failed to repeat his Ajax era success

@ivan yes he is , and i remember him in Barcelona too

Fri: Brasil - Croatia 4 : 1
Sat: Mexico - Cameroon 1 : 1
Spain - Netherlands 1 : 0
Chile - Australia 2 : 0

Brazil or Argentina to win it.
Best European hope - Germany.
England - no chance.
Greece - will bore everyone to sleep.
An African team will make it to the semis.

An ugly American weighing in here: I don't know much about futbol, although I used to enjoy playing some with the Vietnamese immigrants back in high school. Those guys were really good!

I do have some Mexican friends here that keep up on the World Cup. Yeah, futbol just doesn't get much respect from the average American.

Me, I just keep up these guys in baseball:

hahaha, i remember being in Canada during the previous World Cup, and reading a column in the local newspaper about why football (futbol, whatever you guys wanna call it - you stole the word basically to use for your own type of pussy-rugby ;) wasn't popular among Canadians (i am shamelessly equating Canadians with Americans now, but i feel it is probably true for both)... he said the problem was that it was too boring, the matches took too long, most people dont have an attention span long enough to last two times 45 minutes, but the worst thing of it all: during halftime... no show! no girls in tight shirts shooting more t-shirts into the audience! no seat-bingo! wtf!?!??!?

amazing. seriously, how do Canadians (or Americans) watch films then?
