Coffee Thread

We got tea and tobacco, so wtf no coffee thread? Or have I already forgotten it? No matter, bacon!

So today the postman saved my life: I got the recently ordered Lavazza Crema & Gusto, which I prepare in a Bialetti mokka bomb. This stuff is even better than the black tin Lavazza Espresso coffee, IMO. It has a natural sweetness, a bit like caramel.

Fuck, I nearly got a shock when I saw the package, on the side it shows:
"malt caffee" and I thought "WTF malt coffee, are you fucking kidding me?" -- but then I noticed that this must be some other language (Dutch maybe? rho?), meaning "ground coffee". That's good enough for me then :D

Anyway, post your coffee related notes here :)

Meh, I grab a standard Maxwell house and shove the espresso machine full of it.
coffee == productivity drug. Why cut it with filler?

We take coffee pretty seriously in the PNW. Here's one of my favorite roasters, up in Portland (a.k.a. Stumptown):

Screw that Starbucks stuff!

We love Goya and Cafe Bustelo. Excellent and affordable. I prefer a very fine ground, close to, if not even espresso. Rich and full bodied is how we like it.

Did I mention I used to manage coffee shops for close to ten years.

@drew, I never knew that! Was it a chain?

@zazen, and exactly such a thing I wanted to order the other day, made from copper. They even have the extra fine Turkish coffee in that (online) shop. I think ivan loves that style, too!

Not really. A collection of 7 locations in this area. But the model was to provide authentic coffees, as in not Starbucks. We worked closely with La Colombe, which was new at the time.

Doesn't sound too bad then, Drew. Can't stand the overrated latte-with-amaretto-medium-to-go style Starbucks crap, too.... the kind that is also popular in China. Where the decoration is more important than the bean. Meh.

^ Thanks for those links! We typically do French pressed coffee at home, but lately I've also been using the "pour-over" method, which produces a very nice cuppa, too.

I was thinking about this the other day, I'm fairly sure we had a thread about coffee, might have been in the tea thread... Maybe IRC...?
Guy at work has just started ordering from these guys:

Got this yesterday: FAZENDA SERTAOZINHO - tastes like coffee :)

many years ago the best espresso coffee we could find was a big tin of Illy, very nice.
We had a Gaggia Cubica or something machine, with the steamer and all.

Hah, that is my style indeed and I prefer something made of brass and have some of aluminium, too. Though you can find tons of varieties.

Lavazza Crema e Gusto is my day-to-day espresso made the old way in traditional coffee makers. I don't do machines with my coffees. :)

good man, we can open a Wohngemeinschaft, at least in coffee and tobacco we have the same taste -- and Frau Ivanova cooks for us (everything else "ist Eure Sache") :D

Up here, malt means ground, but we don't spell coffee like that.

I drink my coffee black, made in a regular coffemaker, I just turn it off when there is 1 cup left, which I throw away. I can almost keep up with the machine.
Most coffee up here, except the very cheap stuff, is of a decent quality, so I don't add anything to it.

I usually just like a strong, good tasting coffee. I try different stuff, like blonde roasts sometimes, like espresso, black coffee, sometimes some sugar and/or cream/wholemilk.

Sure. :)

For breakfast I like some Latte, I lather the milk myself and of course more coffee than milk in my cups, actually a ton of good espresso.

I am a big coffee drinker, but I primarily just buy Maxwell House Columbian at the local store since that is richer/bolder than the regular Maxwell House brand. I also drink a lot of cuban coffee since it's all over the place here in S Florida. I walk a block down the street and there are several cuban cafes that always have my back.:) Good stuff!

We got loads of great coffee here in Indonesia. I use either a press or siphon depending on how lazy I'm feeling. Favourite coffee has to be Aceh Gayo Arabica but the Aceh Gayo Robusta comes out of my coffee siphon turbocaffeinated, complete with insomnia and heart palpitations. Funniest coffee I've seen is Ganja Coffee in Banda Aceh at the cafes near the Grand Mosque. Ganja plus coffee kind of defeats the purpose of drinking coffee, doesn't it? Syariah police leave the ganja coffee drinkers alone but look for illegal booze. Worst coffee is Kopi Luwak, the civet cat shit coffee. Drank it once and never again. Most expensive coffee in the world and it comes out of a cat's arse. Seriously, what made someone think "Coffee beans in the cat shit, I wonder what that tastes like brewed up?" Only in Indonesia.

^ in fact, interesting results might be obtained from mixing uppers and downers. however, before go into any of that, how about you make yourself an intro thread?
