Creativity is more than just being different. Anybody can play weird; that's easy. What's hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple awesomely simple, that's creativity.

^The funny thing is that one night I was going into a meeting and I said "Man, it's cold enough to kill hogs." Folks knew what I did for a living and wondered what in the world does a computer geek know about killing hogs ;) (My grand parents raised them and for 8 years, startin @ 10, I helped.)

This is my new hero.
"When a young man, I read somewhere the following: God the Almighty said, 'All that is too complex is unnecessary, and it is simple that is needed'. So this has been my lifetime motto -- I have been creating weapons to defend the borders of my fatherland, to be simple and reliable. -- Kalashnikov

The GNOME project has always tried to be window manager-agnostic, acknowledging that most users get really attached to their window managers, and forcing them to use something that manages windows differently would detract from their audience.

^^ hahaha, "great, back to ubuntu..." - wow.
All statements are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense.

Mine too! and you're welcome :). Gives your imagination quite a run, I was first introduced to his writings in 10th grade where i read "How much land does a man need" ( the funny thing is that the title in our book was, "How much land does a man require").But overall a lean writing style.

Re: Quote of the day
"What men live by" was my first one, or maybe it was the Kreutzer Sonata -- and same as you, I read it first when I was around 15.
Usually it should have been Anna Karenina or War and Peace, but I find it very hard to keep myself concentrated reading these. The tales and short stories fit my temper more :)
There is maybe one thing I would dare criticize about Tolstoy - that he always tries to explain things by using the terms God, angels, some kind of incarnation -- but OTOH his writings are 150 years old, and he was living in Russia, so it makes sense somehow :) I do like it when he goes into discussing with himself on a philosophical (rather than a theological) level, about the strength and weakness of humans without trying to make the reader believe that there is the influence of God.
Of course philosophy, moral, sociology, religion, ethics all go together, but sometimes it seems to me that he took the easier path (in terms of creating a solution to a problem) than using logic or reality.
Hope you understand what I mean :D

^ That is the Eastern *spirit* Bacon, it is more spiritual than religious compared to how we perceive religion today, at least that is how I see it.
