I appreciate this talk tbh, because many places on the web, always turn out to be flame wars and junk like that, very little constructive comes out of it.
Personally, I agree fully with you Dura, but I have to say, there should be unity on the packages. They are the language OSs use, hardware manufacturers use etc. It's not so much as what is programmed in what anymore, but how it arrives. I imagine there would be more fluency in the system if there was a common denominator (packages) . The rest ,will be the same, all the linux people in their separate ventures, but as long as they can communicate within easily.
Linux is like water, it goes in one direction or the other, together. :)

Someone told me that I am delusional, I almost fell off my unicorn.

This thread is becoming increasingly philsophical. Makes me think of Bergson and Heraclitus.
...oh.

Heh , your right Dura :)
At least this forum has adult minds, compared to far to many others. It's healthy to have a think!
Sorry about all this talk here, but I don't really have anyone else to discuss/ talk about these things with. I only know two people that uses Linux, ones mostly AWOL and the other is busy in another country :/
I found Linux , when I was in need. I moved to UK with very little money, didn't have money to update bloody windows. Luckily I met a guy, whom is my friend now, that introduced me to Linux. Had some beers and I was in awe :) Times have changed now, and I'm ok now ;) But I still keep Linux close to me.
I was a big distro hopper before, but now thx to #! and now BBQ I'm a WM hopper.
So Salute to you all, and thank you for having me :)
PS PS . This should maybe have been my introduction, which I haven't made yet, but this must count for something :)
