I'm not dead!

Unread post by Launfal » Fri Dec 12, 2014 4:26 pm

These last few months have been busy for me, so I haven't been around much at all, but I figured I'd drop a note to quell the rumors of my untimely demise.

Working on a new novel, trying to get some of my shorter work published in magazines, learning Slackware and Diaspora, dealing with family issues, brutal schedule at work, the list goes on and on.

Once I get my life back on track, I'll be trying some of the newer builds from the grill. Bowlful looks interesting. I read in the notes that Slackware doesn't have a dedicated no-x version, but Salix does, and I saw a set of tagfiles recently that would do about the same thing for standard Slack. Another thing to add to the "when life lets me have my life back" list.

So, in the meantime, I'm still in the spirit of the thing and staying as minimal as I can. Fluxbox for now since it's standard in Slack, but I've got the hang of slackbuilds, so I'll be playing with the new versions of Spectrwm and I3. I did build Surf some time back (webkit took *3* hours to build) and that looks pretty cool. Later kernel/nouveau hates my hardware, so right now I'm running the Nvidia drivers, and they work. Firefox won't even start with anything else.

Pointy-click will rot your brain. Stay in the terminal, like the gods intended. Stray from the path and the next thing you know, you'll be seeing the world in icons. That way lies madness.

Stay cool and keep grilling.

Thanks all, especially for the birthday wishes. As dkeg said, life has been very lively lately, but I'm hoping that things will settle back down after the holidays, and I can get back to breaking my system on a regular basis.

Although I should probably wait until this draft of the book is done. To be fair, though, Slackware is proving awfully hard to break.
