Looks like 32-bit Chromium will be around for a while longer.

The comments are interesting:
Finally, Google admits that Chrome is dribbling swine of a resource hog that requires access to greater resources than a 32 bit OS can offer.
^ I have to say Firefox also has become heavier than ever on RAM usage in the last few months. Even with "only" a couple of tabs and 4 extensions.

^^ feature creep, and bloat. Developers run new fast machines and don't see (or don't care about) performance issues on older hardware.

^ So true. Problem is web 2.0 and all that shiny rollercoaster slide-like websites everywhere. They are going beyond Flash just to being trapped in another damn Disneyland.

^ and don't get me started on all the web sites that are now "optimized" for mobile-device users, especially those that decide I'm using a mobile device when I am not.

agreed on all that. just remember one thing, as a slight cushioning: ever tried to do web-developing? the amount of standards, browsers, browser-versions, and devices you need to take into account is insane. so i kinda understand this being a big fucking mess.

^^ Oh yes. If you had to be mobile-friendly (and these days it is a must), just be responsive. Websites are getting crazier and crazier, especially when all I want to do is read that damn page!

^^ people who do this for a living get paid to deal with the bullshit. It's not my fault they have to deal with insanity (most of which they create themselves), and it will not keep me from bitching about the bad decisions they make.

^ This.
I used to be a web developer. Actually, J2EE developer, so more web-applications than websites. The increasing complexity of web development is partly responsible for me turning away from that kind of programming and moving to something else.

Is Google making a mistake here? Absolutely not. Quite frankly, it is shocking that the company has supported 32-bit Linux this long. Look, yes, Linux-based operating systems can breathe new life into old hardware, but computers without 64-bit processors are way beyond their expiration date.

If you are clinging to such old hardware, it is time to move on -- you can get a more powerful machine for a few hundred bucks nowadays.

Another reason to stay with 32 bits. And dillo. And CLI browsers :)
