^ I guess it does make more sense the more I think about it. When I first that it was in Paris, I visualized something a little less extensive. Bernds on Krautchan did display some of the statistics of the extent of Islam in Europe. With so many, you are bound to have a few crazies who take jihad literally. From my point of view, I don't understand why more individuals there don't just carry around guns... all it would have taken to make this less lecherous is to have one of the journalists (or at least security) pull a 9mm or .38 Special and pop a few in the head. Game over. After all, are not illegal firearms already common enough on the black market in Europe after the fall of the Soviet bloc? I guess I am just used to being able to go down and pick up a decent shotgun (or "The Great Discouragor" as we call it in Wyoming) for $350 at the pawn shop over here...

i think you have to firmly realize the differences in gunlaws between America and Europe make a big part of that statement sound a bit nutty. speaking as a European, and even an annoyingly liberal and offensive Dutch, while i think your "solution" might, theoretically, have a positive effect in some situations, i imagine it brings with it more bullshit than it is worth. the collateral damage of public gunownership greatly outweighs the benefits, i think, and it would in no way make the world any safer. i would even go as far as to say that it would make things worse. i think this is the general feeling in Europe when it comes to guns. i am also not entirely sure how much good it is doing for America. it might indeed be, as you say, that you are used to it - which isnt necessarily a good thing :)

^ True dat. Culturally, 'rope and 'murica can be quite far apart. It would make sense why gun laws differ quite greatly from culture to culture. Where I grew up, it was considered unwise, and even harmful to your own family, to not be able to utilize a firearm if needed (specifially in a wilderness application, as bear spray doesn't cut the mustard at times). You do not have black bears mulling about Netherlands, therefore the it doesn't make as much sense in that way. Therefore, gun prices would be higher on the black market in Europe because they are not readily available to the general public, and this would most likely tend to deter the petty theives from wanting to buy a TEC-9 for car-jacking and stealing frosting from peoples cupboards. Organized criminal organizations would most likely be the only groups with enough capital to buy such weapons :D As for home invasion situations, I prefer other methods (like fertilizer or C-4) as I would not feel morally right shooting someone across the street with over-spray as well as the burglar in my bathroom stealing my sexy spirulina/goat-milk soap :)

It is pretty cool to hear an European weigh in on the gun control subject, though. I don't hear that very often over here. Europe sounds like it is a safer place than the US; nice actually :) Someday I might come visit... a roadtrip would be fun. You could show me how to hit on girls in the Netherlands :D (I suck here, and I would guess I would be even worse over there, but what the heck?)

Birmingham's total Muslim population of 140,033 was the highest of any local authority area. That's around 22%. More than you can shake a Sikh at. ;)
