scanners that work well with Linux?

Unread post by pidsley » Sat Feb 14, 2015 8:07 pm

Bones asked for old hardware recommendations, and that reminded me that I have been thinking about purchasing a scanner to digitize my huge pile of old photographs. Does anyone have a scanner that works well with Linux, or opinions? I will do my own research of course, but if anyone has a recommendation I would be happy to hear it.

i have had success with an Epson scanner. made a script for it once as well, its on the #! forums here: http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?id=13875
the scanimage program it uses is really nice and simple, from what i remember.

the HP all-in-one office jet at work works well, over the web interface, so we don't install anything. might be a bit much for a ton of photos. and less use if you already have a printer. ;)

I got an HP Deskjet 2510 (printer/scanner) that works really well, just needs hplip.
Also, I have an OKI MB471 that has drivers for Linux and gives me no problem.

Good question, I never had problems with several scanners (partly stand-alone, partly in all-in-one printers) in combination with sane/xsane (and SCSI scanners).

That is what we use at home. HP stuff works generally very well with Linux.
