^ thanks ! - not that interesting perhaps - last update: it's all working nicely, I had to add a usb to ethernet dongle on eth1, so did it all manually in the end, as the script doesn't account for not using eth0 (why onboard eth0 doesn't function I do not know)

Finally got around to running minix with qemu. It was very familiar since most parts used were from NetBSD 5ish. (installer, boot, userland, RC. and pkgin package management.) So there self healing micro kernel, which I am curious about and may dig in the source later.

Then I came across this article and like WOW.

Who knew about this ?

^ Tanenbaum won in the end.

Lately, I've been eyeing and reading a good amount of docs about ChibiOS, ordered a few stm32 boards and see if i can create something useful out of it, or just learn new stuff since my only experience with anything like this is the AVR stuff in college.

dietpi has really grown. I've been actually using openmediavault, which had ran out of support, so I thought I'd do the decent thing and upgrade it (which should just be an update command... but that didn't work due to some apt conflict which I couldn't be bothered to fix) so that means pulling the card out, in the process I somehow dropped my fucking hdd on the floor, running :/

so that is dead. Lucky I have a back up but it's not a full one anyway.
point being I put openmediavault back on the SD card by just installing the img over it. I just had problem after problem. so i ditched it and it's all running on dietpi now.

Debian Buster is out. I will probably wait a while before upgrading. I don't mind using oldstable as long as it is LTS.

^ Thanks. I think I'll wait too, at least until I'm sure nothing big breaks.

Great news. When I have time I will do the upgrades around the house and no doubt it will work.

All services (boodle, plex, transmission) are running smoothly. Java taking up all that memory, of course.

^ Actually, I'm a huge liar, because that was only partial. This is after a full upgrade, and it still rocks. :)

^ Only issue I had was nodejs, but beside upgrading it and rebuilding node-sass, everything went smoothly and after rebooting all was up and running again with no hiccup.
