Reddit AMA's, interviews, biographies, whatever
because i didn't want to dump this into the Random Internet Thread and couldnt find a dedicated computer science thread (and my knowledge of that is almost non-existent anyway), i figured i'd do a thread dedicated to interesting and insightful interviews etc. you know how it works: post what you see fit.
in this case, it is a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything, for those unfamiliar with the word).
Bryan Cantrill: I am the CTO of Joyent, the father of DTrace and an OS kernel developer for 20 years. AMA!

i read through this even though i don't understand half of it, but at the least he has some nice stories about the origins of certain stuff such as pgrep/pkill and a debate on the possibility of 'rm -rf /' on any system: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=4306515 & https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8896812

All statements are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense.

perhaps more interesting than the AMA itself is the articles he's written (links are there) on the game No Man's Sky, which sounds absolutely awesome. procedurally generated worlds where even the creators do not know which flora, fauna etc you will encounter. even the sound design approach is similar, at least for the animal voices. really worth reading through.
article on the game: http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/ ... chadourian
video on the game: http://video.newyorker.com/watch/commen ... -man-s-sky
article on the sound in the game: http://www.newyorker.com/tech/elements/ ... ounds-like
enjoy :)
