Favourite Beers

I prefer German and Belgium beer.
Oettinger is easily available in the Netherlands (LIDL).
But my favourite is Haake Beck https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haake-Beck

Belgium beers is more difficult.
Duvel is perhaps one of the most famous. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duvel_Moortgat_Brewery
Leffe (tripel) is already beeing mentioned.
There are way too many good choices.

For the Netherlands.. I like Grolsch as a normal pilsener https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grolsch_Brewery
Hertog Jan is also fine (and various beertypes to choose from). The tripel is more like Duvel or Leffe, and Grand Prestige is a kind like Gulden Draak (10% alc).

^ failing that fresh draught beer in a pint glass, in a pub makes it taste good (especially as it costs twice as much)

This is good ... seasonal ... and it's available again. It's an ale, so not as heavy as it looks. Not like a stout at all.

Back from Spain and I had at least some nice beers like Alhambra from Granada, I think I posted it already. If they only would leave the corn out. Otherwise a nice lager.

And then Turia from Valencia. It is an ale.

Okay I got a bunch of Brewdogs, stuff like Dead Pony and Pink Punk (or whatever it is called). Overrated stuff IMO. If you like flavoured wheat beers from Belgium... I don't.

I like most beer, but forget half i've tried...

I'm not a huge fan of German beers. Just don't like a meal in a bottle.
In Japan, Kirin & Orion were pretty good.
In the US, Odell Brewing Company: 90 Shilling, Cuthroat Porter, and Easy Street Wheat Ale are great (90 Shilling is a bit heavy though too)

I'm usually poor/ghetto though, so drink mostly Ice beer in tall cans :D
If you ever see "Icehouse Edge", try it. Its like 8% malt liquor that still tastes like beer, amazing! Sadly, can't find where I'm at now.

^ "German beers" sounds a tad too broad. Wheat beers, filtered, unfiltered, dark, white, Pilsner, Export, Koelsch, Alt, Bock, ...? :D

I don't remeber a lot of them specifically. A lot of my drinking days were in extreme excess, so hard to say. I had to look up the beers I tried in Japan because those 2 years are pretty much a blur. Its just weird when i feel full or can't finish a beer. Its entirely possible most German beers i tried were stouts or other thick syrup styles... I've never actually been to Germany. I'm sure there's probably good beers there. Just from what I've been exposed to so far, I haven't been a huge fan. Like Fosters isn't great, but I'm sure it doesn't represent Australian brewing as a whole; just haven't tried much else from there either to know for sure.

I'm not German, btw, so I am not biased or something. I like Czech pilsners most.
Google says Germany has 1319 breweries with over 5500 different beers, so it's quite possible there is a good one somewhere. Definitely. I am living in China, and the only German beers that are sold here are the worst "supermarket" style beers that nobody in Germany would drink (namely "5.0", which seems to be a licensed Oettinger; or extremely disgusting wheat beer labelled "Kaisardom" - yes, with an "a"). Really just rubbish. There seems to be a main importer somewhere in Shanghai who buys rubbish in 40ft HQ containers and redistributes these low budget beers. So it might absolutely possible that you got such a budget beer.

German beer, hm. Also not a German but I live in beer paradise Franconia. And believe me they have absolutely great beers here.

Just yesterday we went to a Bockbier fest. Of course we were all drunk, very drunk. The Bockbier season is the 5th season in Bavaria just after the beginning of fall and before winter. :D

Im guessing its a similar issue with American beers. I know we ship like Budweiser, Miller, and Coors worldwide. Alot of the really good local brewery stuff can only be found in the state it's brewed in, most likely not out of the country at all. Im guessing that's why Aussies think all our beer is pisswater, lol.

Would be cool if ALL beers were available worldwide. Liquor stores would all have to be warehouses though...

Brit here agreeing with the 'pisswater' thoughts about US 'export' brews. :p
still, I don't think the UK has an export beer, certainly not a lager, maybe 'special brew'
