^ Prodi-who?
Ribs, mmmh - chinese or BBQ...

Dinner for me these days is like this - visit cheap aisle, get hand full of meat. cheap veg.
fry bacon - fry meat - add veg - spice - add tinned beans - simmer for 1 hour or so.
That sees me through the week for lunches.

As long as there is potato and a fried egg, everything goes. The simple things are often the best. Tinned beans are excellent for at least two important dishes: a bean stew or chili con carne.

I can deal with just bread, fried egg would be nice with it, only a microwave at work. Nice thing is depends on what's on offer, adds a random element to it.

@ivan, nice! Might even try that.

What about some chick-pea? We talked once about it. Spanish dish with nice chorizo.

yeah, ressurectus threadus !
I must have missed this last post, looks really nice Ivan.

I was going to ask a question to Gekko actually:

We have just been looking through the enormous variety of pasta forms on wikipedia and wondered what ones italian people generally and actually eat for dinner?

Anyone else in other countries I guess too. :)
In the UK the most favourite seem to be penne, spaghetti, lasagne and fuselli. Judging by which "value" 5 kg products are available.

Another stew, Spanish, Fabada Asturiana. Though it is canned but still fantastic.
If I make Serbian bean stew I do it myself.

Do you use or own a crokpot. If not, you should. And you will be happy!

Crockpots are fantastic. Just throw some things in and leave it for a few hours.

Crockpots are the bomb. Toss in some apple juice, cranberry juice, and some mulling spices (allspice, cloves, cinnamon stick, orange slices, etc.) and you have some mean cider. (If you want it sweeter, you could always put a little brown sugar in.) Lots of good slow-cooker recipes out there and startpage is a great place to begin the search.

We used to have a multi fuel stove, a "range" I suppose, which was great for slow cooking.
Not a crockpot related issue, but a story I read somewhere:
Guys wife is going on holiday for a week, husband gets enthused about making an everlasting stew. where the stew is added to throughout the week.
first day goes well, "delicious" he says.
second day - "even better" he says.
third day - " still going"
fourth day - not at work
fifth day - ditto
co-workers found out on monday he had serious food poisoning. The idea is the pot is on the simmer - all the time as you add things. not heat-reheat-cycle. just made a nice breeding ground for bacteria.

A real Crockpot is a North American thing, so you cannot buy the brand here I think but still something similar maybe or from the webz of course.

Wux, regarding pasta, because I have many Italian friends we make a wide range of pasta in this house. I learned a lot. But the Germans just do the standard things as do the Spaniards, nothing special. I guess *real* pasta is an Italian thing.

One plate from the north of Spain, Galicia, when Pidsley said there you go can go and eat the alphabet of marisco, seafood. Interesting enough the same plate is served in Serbia because this fish is everywhere, no need for a sea.

It is very easy to do, just bake it and later put a bit of fresh lemon juice on top of it.
