first bbq

Unread post by spam » Sat Jan 26, 2013 10:08 pm

Hi guys,

I'm new here with not much bbq experience.
BUT
I did my first barbie!!! kind of reverse engineering...

first I love openbox
so I was looking for a basic distro with openbox that support my hardware
It was a bit tricky because I have a Atom 2500 motherboard and a 3G usb modem to conect to the internet
There is crunchbang waldorf that works and is stable, I use as a main/default distro
The distro that I play with is peppermint3. It works with my hardware and if you log into openbox, you get...nothing ( black screen)...great start!!!

Right now, after a day and a bit It's sizzling...I have it running with my favourite apps and it's fast...

sooo ...for those who have problems with the current meat @bbq ( I could'nt get the screen right and couldn't get my modem working) this might be a solution

the next things I would like to do (but don't have any clue) is remove plymouth ( I disabled the splash screen, but I like it gone)
please let me know if you have a solution,
The other thing I'd like to do is make a .iso of my current installation, that I don't losse it in case I burn the meat.

cheers

Hi spam!

To create an ISO, just open a terminal and enter "bbqsnapshot" as root...

@grumbl: thanks for the effort, but I think the OP doesn't even use our distro so he won't have the bbq-tools.

@OP

"
sooo ...for those who have problems with the current meat @bbq ( I could'nt get the screen right and couldn't get my modem working) this might be a solution"

What are you talking about?
1) arandr/lxrandr
2) sudo apt-get install modemmanager

Edit: so you seriously come here to tell the BBQ'ers to use PeppermintOS based on Ubuntu to roast their own? lol
I mean, you couldn't get the screen right doesn't mean it is a distro-problem, don't you think? You can get the screen right in about any distro, no matter if Slackware, Ubuntu/Debian, Fedora, SuSE, Arch, whatever. Just need to read it up (in every distro) and if modemmanager is installer by default is purely cosmetic. Then we can start discussing about adding software X or software Y to the base spins.

Something's fishy here.

3) remove plymouth: sudo apt-get autoremove --purge plymouth
4) google for remastersys

I recommend going to PeppermintOS or the Ubuntu forums to ask these questions, they sit at the source.

Hi,
yes sorry I don't use your distros, but I tried, I'm just not that experienced
Machinebacon thanks
I tried xrandr.. it gives me a max resolution of 1024x576... but as I said I think it's a hardware problem
you ask a question about atom d2500 in other forums and you get an answer like why don't you buy better hardware, thats why I was looking here.
I didn't try to do something fishy
also after installing modemmanager I still could not connect with my modem
I can do so with ubuntu, puppy, crunchbang, but again I don't know why it doesn't work here
crunchbang statler works with modem but doesn't get the resolution , waldorf with screen resolutionand modem

I love to use your trollinger, I think it's a beauty
if you have any idea I'll try it
thanks

Please post the output of

Code: Select all

lspci -nnk
and the output of

Code: Select all

lsusb
when the 3G stick is connected.

But as I said, if it works well for you in other distros, go with them. If you need the configuration files of Trollinger, copy them from the /etc/skel/.config/ and /usr/share/themes/ and /usr/share/wallpapers/ folders to your Lubuntu-based system. I doubt that LinuxBBQ is the perfect choice for you right now.

Thanks.
For 1) check this: http://wiki.debian.org/DebianEeePC/Model/1101HA
For 2) read http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=231458

Sorry to post links, but I don't have that hardware and these instructions look sane to me.
