Intro by maso :)

Unread post by maso » Wed Sep 09, 2015 8:02 pm

Hi. Just registered to able to say thanks to Machinebacon and the other contributors of code and new fun distros and such. I'm a history professor at a small US state college. That makes me an unlikely user of Linux, I think, at least in the US, and an even more unlikely haunter of this site. Which is a shame; my colleagues have no idea what they're missing. The journey here started with quitting Windows four years ago, going to Ubuntu, then Mint, then Crunchbang, now here (Popcorn is on my office PC, with dwm as the WM; I'm a heavy user of gummi, which I only learned about from here). Every step a step away from bloat, from nonsense, from systems that are no fun and insult the user's intelligence. I think I work better because of it, even though I don't do anything IT-related for a living, unless simple HTML and CSS coding for a couple of academic websites counts. If nothing else, from what I've learned from here I can actually make the ancient crappy computers in my classrooms actually work well for teaching.

So, again, thank you.
just say "thanks, man"

Great stuff! Many similarities with me. Just a regular dude living a double life. You'd be surprised by the members here. Try hanging out a bit more. Come to the Orc IRC channel too on Freenode at #linuxbbq

nice intro maso. i'd say, change your avatar for the sake of it, and hang around a bit more. you've seen what we have around here. music, films, all manner of shit. fuck, start a history thread if you want to! i know i don't know nearly enough about history, so if you feel you have something interesting to contribute in any way, shape or form, feel free.
if not, of course, just lurking is fine as well :)

welcome!

Wow. Great intro, interesting stuff. Welcome to the forums Maso!
I love history btw.
For me it is not strange to see a professor using a real operating system, it makes sense. It provides all the tools you need.
