Cometh the Neophyte...

Unread post by daggoth » Wed Sep 23, 2015 2:58 am

Hey guys, just a few words here to introduce myself. I'm just a hobbyist who mucks around with Linux in his spare time. And with me, it all happens at a snail's pace. My main OS is currently FVWM/Debian testing, whereas 4 years ago, it was probably XFCE/Crunchbang.

Yes, some of your names are already familiar to me - I've lurked the Crunchbang forums for some years. Indeed, I still remember when someone was flamed over there for having the temerity to mention linuxbbq. An exodus followed, and most of the good ones left :-(

But like most lurkers, I typically only post once LMGTFY/RTFM fatigue has set in. Over the last couple of months, I have been wrangling a new laptop, and tweaking my FVWM config. But now, I will be trying out a few of your best roasts! Because I like to see how others do things, and copy their good ideas. And there's still a heap of WMs that I've never even looked at yet...

Welcome Daggoth, thank you for the introduction and happy to have you on board.
Cool, I have just started to look/explore FVWM again, heh, it feels more than a WM already.

cheers

New Zealand, awesome. i hope to visit it someday - at least i'm closer now (HK) then before (NL) :)
i recently spoke to a girl from NZ, and we were talking about the word "cunt" (among other things, of course). my wife is English, and "cunt" is about the worst thing you can say to anybody. the NZ girl told me that in NZ it is actually a huge compliment when you are called "a good cunt". can you confirm and possibly elaborate?

Isn't this similar to where Cheech Marin says 'pendejo'
is a term of endearment in Mexican?

That's hilarious. I guess it depends on the girl and how drunk she is, huh? No, cunt and mongrel are still kinda offensive whilst sober.

But other words do work that way. I noticed some ladies published The Good Bitchs Cookbook or similar. They apparently viewed good bitch as a great compliment. Whereas good bastards and good buggers is common enough. The rule being that whenever you put "good" in front of a "bad" word, you can at least claim it was a compliment.

Perhaps the best new word to come out of NZ recently was munted. It perfectly described Christchurch after the big earthquake - broken beyond all repair, and not fit for its intended purpose.
