You don't lock the door, I'm what you get
Hey grillers and grill-ettes. As you can see, I'm back.
What a year. They moved my job 40 miles away, so the daily drive's a grind. Then the latest book needed finished, and while I have a second draft done, it still needs work. It's gonna be something special when I'm done, but that ain't now.
Let's see, what else? Done some distro-hopping. Slackware was cool, but some of the tools I need won't build/work right, so for better or worse, I'm on Debian Jessie. I'm still not sold on systemd, but it ain't caught fire or blown up yet, so whatever evil is supposed to befall me seems to be on hold.
I'm still mostly cli, but I can't get around needing Iceweasel for the net. I'm watching netsurf closely, especially since they're working on that ductape javascript engine, so if they get that working, that should be a winner. I threw up a screenie of my current working desktop in the spectrwm thread just to show that I'm not a heretic.
Other than that, nothing much happening. Been reading some Frank Herbert because I'm not warped enough already. Everybody knows the Dune series, but try out his Pandora sequence if you're tired of reading stuff that makes sense. Destination Void is a couple hundred pages of wtf that probably makes sense to somebody, but not to me.
So, with luck, I'll be around more. Things look like they got moved around some since I was here last, but most of the stuff is still where I left it, which is good. I wouldn't want my first post in 384,238 years to end up in the troll-dumpster-black-hole-of-calcutta because I put it in the wrong place.
So stay cool and keep the grill hot,
Launfal

Yeah, I was wondering the other day (week) where our dirty laundry man is :) So welcome back!
Your current working desktop could actually be tmux in a fbterm session (sans Iceweasel, but hey -- you anyway wanted to be more productive, so get rid of those GUI browsers, they have cost productive people billions of $$$ in the last years and created comparably little monetary profit :D) -- at least it looked more like a tmus/fbterm session to me than spectrwm :)
Tip of the day: fix the 40 miles tooth grind with audio books.

Yah, hope you get a fuel allowance. I used to do that, ended up car sharing. week on, week off.
so 80 miles a day, 400 miles a week, mostly under a tank for my machine, so around 50 quid a tank.
50 quid a week, 200 quid a month... even more glad I work from home :)
and welcome back !

welcome back Laundry! good to see you're still out there :)
All statements are true in some sense, false in some sense, meaningless in some sense, true and false in some sense, true and meaningless in some sense, false and meaningless in some sense, and true and false and meaningless in some sense.
