One thing I forgot: my Moleskine

Whenever I leave my desk, I have this little thing with me in the backpack I mentioned above. I'm a bit old school and still in the habit of taking notes and writing down whatever comes to my mind wih pen and paper when I'm afk.

Hah, that's just the beginning of insanity. Would you believe I have more than one pair of these things. The one pictured is my best, but I've blown quite a bit of $$ before arriving at my end-game. You haven't even seen my portable listening rig yet. I take it out at airport lounges and security wants to call the bomb squad.

Moleskine make great products. I never was into the whole "high-end notebook" thing until Evernote sent me one of their own Moleskine variants as a test sample, and it was great. I don't use it for it's intended purpose mainly because I don't like Evernote's scanning app, but I can't fault the notebook itself.

pulling it up because of an update

- added a Lamy Safari fountain pen in matte "charcoal" black to the collection

- changed to another backpack (a nice big one with apparently 30L, the nice thing about it is that I can use it for short travels as well as shopping), and a smaller messenger bag which I actually use most of the time. Two drink holders, many compartments, it's also a bit safer and lighter than backpacks.

- oh yes, lighter - another standard Zippo and an IMCO (as mentioned in the Tobacco thread), using the Zippo more often

- replaced the battery of my Omega Constellation but still not wearing it. Simply too expensive (it was a gift for my 18th birthday). Got myself an interval timer instead for Pomodoro and TRX.

- added a small waterproof box for 1st Aid shit, like pain killers, aforementioned stomach pills, eye drops, plasters, snuff, Tiger Balm, Poy Sian stick, replacement USB cable and a multi-tool card

How is the X230? I am thinking about getting either an X60, X220 or X230. I heard good things about the battery life, is that true?

^ the x230 isn't bad, especially the one with IPS screen. Great battery life, lasts about 7-8 hours or around 10 without wi-fi on (9-cell battery).

Cons: Keyboard and touchpad aren't that great, i still think x200-220, t400-t420 or generally other thinkpad milfwares as superior. I plan to change mine to x220 keyboard since it fits according to thinkpad wiki. Would probably flash core/libreboot as well as soon as i can find pomona clip around here.

Buy an x220 MB, you won't regret it.

I am with Frank. I do not really like the newer keyboards and would go with the old style, so an x220. At least for what I/wee do with our machines it should be sufficient and you still get that IBM keyboard you already know on your 'old'-Pads.

looks like the X1 keyboard, I really like mine, used the wife's old toshiba (her chromebook went in for repairs) and it was horrible.
never had a mid-age IBM keyboard.
battery on mine sucks, I get maybe 3 very careful hours, if it 's not doing anything. I don't do a lot of moving around though.

^^ The newer keyboard still has that "clicky" feel around it, and the "clit" is still as good as ever. I just miss the scrollback/forward keys and the top-row ones. :)

I guess it will be an X60 this time, because the x220 is a bit over my planned budget. Originally, I planned to put only GNU shit on it (GuixSD for kicks). The x220 would cost around 3x more than an X60 (incl. SSD), so for borking around like an idiot the X60 is a better choice :D

considering a mini chromebook thing with hardly any guts is 150quid - not MB's use case, just thinking aloud, got enough computers myself got no where for them to sit though.
