Somebody here that loves Boogie Nights?
You probably know the director because of another movie, Magnolia, which I also like but I prefer Boogie Nights. Of course in both films you can see Philip Seymour Hoffman in action.

I'll give it a try, but as I already said when doing the same for music, this is like a scrot of my mind right now. A month, even a day from now, this can change due to my relentless movie-watching.

@ivan: I like Boogie Nights. Can't say "love", but I like it a lot.

I believe I already wrote about more or less every film listed above. Can't remember, but if you want to know something in particular, ask me and I'll be glad to bother you.

The #22 on that list would have been Jia Zhangke's The World. I love everything this man does, but The World is very dear to me. I got the Masters of Cinema bluray edition, an outstanding 1080p marvel.

Also, I cannot believe I left out Nobuhiko Obayashi's Hausu. Shame on me, that movie meant so much in my first days of discovering Asian cinema. Shame on me. I got the Eureka! dvd, very beautiful and full of extra content.

same prerequisite as Gekko, this is a snapshot of what i can think of now.

The Darjeeling Limited (Wes Anderson, co-written with Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman) - actually rewatched this just now cause i was having an absolutely shitty night and needed some peace of mind.
The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson) - i like almost all of Wes Anderson's films. he just does it for me.
Amelie
Natural Born Killers - one of my go-to films, fucking love it. only now realize the story was written by Tarantino. makes sense, i suppose.
Apocalypse Now - second go-to film, like a Vietnam acid-trip on film.
Burn After Reading - and yeah, most other Coen-brothers films, but The Big Lebowsky is so obvious ;)

Rundskop ("Bullhead") - a Belgian film, rough like a Guy Ritchie film but with more drama. love it.

Good films, never knew that The Departed was a remake.
Don't think I'll be searching out the 'Infernal Affairs' original though.

Y'know I was thinking as I was writing, Hmm Gekko quite likes asian cinema, I wonder what his take on that particular remake thing is...

My fav asian films are cheesy Run Run Shaw (although those are pretty classy) kung fu flicks, mainly with Jackie Chan, who is a legend.

Infernal Affairs and Infernal Affairs II are just great movies. Not my favourites from HK, but they deserves a watch.

If you go down the noir-line with HK cinema, just pick anything Johnnie To was involved with at the end of the 90s and you're in for a treat: The Mission, The Longest Nite, A Hero Never Dies. Or later, PTU. Also, I got a feeling Ivan would love Throw Down, which is THE finest homage to Akira Kurosawa.

^ actually, your knowledge is impeccable, i started watching DM 1 with the kids (who loved it, even though it was in cantonese and started karate chopping the poor dog after) and you're correct; DM 2 is the one i was thinking of, that is the better one :)
I also enjoyed this one (I know it as twin warriors) - loved the scope.
