As kindly requested, here's the topic where we can share our love for our favourite film(s).

Charts, comments, fun facts, collector's editions: spread your love like a fever.

I don't know if a dedicated section like we have for music is needed; it seems like we have more music than cinema fans on board. :-)

Fav films just on purely how many times I've watched them:
The Big Lebowski
Dirty Harry

I like:
Mad Max 2 - better than the new fangled one, which is still a good'un
I thought Gravity was pretty good.
O' brother where art thou.
probably some others.

Cool. Thank you Gekko. I think it is OK to have the thread just here for the moment.

Somebody here that loves Boogie Nights?
You probably know the director because of another movie, Magnolia, which I also like but I prefer Boogie Nights. Of course in both films you can see Philip Seymour Hoffman in action.

I'll give it a try, but as I already said when doing the same for music, this is like a scrot of my mind right now. A month, even a day from now, this can change due to my relentless movie-watching.

21 films, in no particular order:

Streets of Fire (Walter Hill)
The Blade / Time and Tide (Tsui Hark) (I love them both equally, for different reasons)
Kung Fu Hustle (Stephen Chow)
Last Action Hero (John McTiernan)
Once Upon a Time in the West (Sergio Leone)
The Mission (Johnnie To)
Apocalypse Now (Francis Ford Coppola)
Dead Leaves (Hiroyuki Imaishi)
Bullets Over Summer (Wilson Yip)
Gamer (Neveldine/Taylor)
Detention (Joseph Kahn)
Speed Racer (Wachowskis)
Hana-Bi (Takeshi Kitano)
Mysteries of Lisbon (Raul Ruiz)
Joint Security Area (Park Chan-wook)
Fireball (Thanakorn Pongsuwan)
Aliens (James Cameron)
Mad Max: Fury Road (George Miller)
Ashes of Time (Wong Kar-Wai)
To Live and Die in L.A. (William Friedkin)
Showgirls (Paul Verhoeven)

I left out LOTS of stuff, but that's a start anyway.

@ivan: I like Boogie Nights. Can't say "love", but I like it a lot.

I believe I already wrote about more or less every film listed above. Can't remember, but if you want to know something in particular, ask me and I'll be glad to bother you.

The #22 on that list would have been Jia Zhangke's The World. I love everything this man does, but The World is very dear to me. I got the Masters of Cinema bluray edition, an outstanding 1080p marvel.

Also, I cannot believe I left out Nobuhiko Obayashi's Hausu. Shame on me, that movie meant so much in my first days of discovering Asian cinema. Shame on me. I got the Eureka! dvd, very beautiful and full of extra content.

same prerequisite as Gekko, this is a snapshot of what i can think of now.

The Darjeeling Limited (Wes Anderson, co-written with Roman Coppola and Jason Schwartzman) - actually rewatched this just now cause i was having an absolutely shitty night and needed some peace of mind.
The Royal Tenenbaums (Wes Anderson) - i like almost all of Wes Anderson's films. he just does it for me.
Amelie
Natural Born Killers - one of my go-to films, fucking love it. only now realize the story was written by Tarantino. makes sense, i suppose.
Apocalypse Now - second go-to film, like a Vietnam acid-trip on film.
Burn After Reading - and yeah, most other Coen-brothers films, but The Big Lebowsky is so obvious ;)
Office Space
Dead Poets Society
Leaving Las Vegas
Rundskop ("Bullhead") - a Belgian film, rough like a Guy Ritchie film but with more drama. love it.
The Name of the Rose
There Will Be Blood
Brazil (Terry Gilliam)
Holy Motors - one of the weirdest fucking films i know, but loved it
Punch-drunk Love - one of Adam Sandler's serious roles
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - one of Jim Carrey's serious roles - fucking love this.

well, can't be fucked to lengthen that list. bedtime :)

Didn't realise it was only favourite films that weren't obvious or hip :p
I wouldn't have a list otherwise.

So I should look up my list. :)

Departed, even though it is a remake but I am a Scorsese fan. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0407887/
Babel, yes I like Iñárritu. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0449467/
Broken Flowers and anything by Jarmush. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0412019/?ref_=nv_sr_2
Match Point, the only great thing for me by Allen. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0416320/?ref_=nv_sr_1
Zivot je cudo, a Serbian film by Kusturica. If you do not know Kusturica, go and look it up. Surreal Balkan cinema. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0322420/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 I have the original DVD. Watched it million times.

That's it for now. I am already making a list from all of your recommendations. Great thread guys.

^ Quite a UK fan (writers and actors) :)
Good films, never knew that The Departed was a remake.
Don't think I'll be searching out the 'Infernal Affairs' original though.

Y'know I was thinking as I was writing, Hmm Gekko quite likes asian cinema, I wonder what his take on that particular remake thing is...

My fav asian films are cheesy Run Run Shaw (although those are pretty classy) kung fu flicks, mainly with Jackie Chan, who is a legend.

Armor of God I & II
City Hunter - just for the SF2 scene.
Drunken master - love the drunken style myself ;)
(on the Sega Saturn there was a game (Virtua Fighter -thank you google) with a drunken style character, amazing );

^ Yes, all great movies. (although I prefer Drunken Master II to the first one)

Infernal Affairs and Infernal Affairs II are just great movies. Not my favourites from HK, but they deserves a watch.

If you go down the noir-line with HK cinema, just pick anything Johnnie To was involved with at the end of the 90s and you're in for a treat: The Mission, The Longest Nite, A Hero Never Dies. Or later, PTU. Also, I got a feeling Ivan would love Throw Down, which is THE finest homage to Akira Kurosawa.

^ actually, your knowledge is impeccable, i started watching DM 1 with the kids (who loved it, even though it was in cantonese and started karate chopping the poor dog after) and you're correct; DM 2 is the one i was thinking of, that is the better one :)
I also enjoyed this one (I know it as twin warriors) - loved the scope.
