Re: archvortex is back
Thanks again for the welcome back guys!! I've been reading threads I've missed and laughed out loud so much to the point of tears so many times in the last few days that my family are getting worried that I'm having a relapse or something.
@frank I've seen lots of vigilante justice carried out by locals or wong deso around Indonesia for various infractions. Usually it was for poor driving. I saw a mikrolet driver get killed and the mikrolet burned for hitting a pregnant woman using a light controlled pedestrian crossing in Jakarta. I mention Java just because of the sheer number of people and sheer number of motorcycles on the road. Bali is bad especially around Kuta and the airport because so many Bogans (Aussies) rent motorcycles and add to the traffic jams already there. If it rains, it's a complete nightmare. I'm living in Sanur now and it's quieter yet still touristy. I still have a house in Batu in East Java but as beautiful as it is there, traffic is getting bad due to so many tourists and it's turning into another Puncak/Bandung fiasco. So many L licence plates driving around there nowadays.

Re: archvortex is back
As a fellow motorcyclist, I'm glad you're alright. I'm more glad you're not a vegetable, to be completely honest. Once had a very bad highside and the moment the doctors said the were going to operate on my back, I told them to fucking kill me the moment they got even the slightest hint I was going to end up paralyzed waist down. Thankfully, it didn't turn out anywhere as bad. If you're the religious type, I suggest you and your helmet make a pilgrimage to the Isle of Man to pay your respects to the faeries once you're fully up and about, and catch the TT while you're at it, obviously. May the Schwantz be with you.

What a story, hope your recovery goes well!
B.t.w. The Indonesian people are very nice. I grew up in an Indonesian neigbourhood and they gave me some nice names...
Blanda, Koelie, Kontol and Goblok as examples :D

Theo, those are some of the first words a foreigner learns in Indonesia (hahaha!) but surprised you didn't add "jancok"
Gutterslob, I've been riding since I was 7 years old ( grew up in a farming neighbourhood and my parents got me a Honda 49cc Mini Trail to get around) and I've ridden on all continents except Antartica. I've only had two accidents in my life and both were in Indonesia, both were because of stupid drivers and both hospitalized me. I have a Harley cop style helmet that has saved my melon twice from being split open during the accidents. Well worth the money I paid for it.
I'm in the beginning process of looking to move to Malaysia, preferably Penang. I have a lot of friends in the area, usually go there several times a year and my wife and kids love it there. Although my wife is Indonesian, she prefers it in Penang too.

^ Always wanted to visit Penang. Everyone says the food there is fantastic, especially inthe Georgetown area. I have only been to Langkawi, which is not to bad either ;)

Re: archvortex is back
I like Penang (I live in Singapore, fyi). Not as relaxing as it used to be due to the population increase, but I suppose that would apply to most places in the world. Still better than most of the other Malaysian cities. There are technically two Penangs, though. One is the actual island (where all the tourists go), and the other in in-state part of the peninsular (where the capital, Butterworth is). Which one are you planning for? Probably less crazy than Bali, but I've heard it's quite an expensive city to live in these days. Not as crazy expensive as Singapore, but property wise the island side of Penang has some of the most expensive housing in Malaysia.archvortex wrote:I'm in the beginning process of looking to move to Malaysia, preferably Penang.
Personally, the only place in Malaysia I'd consider moving to would be Genting Highlands. Decided to come back to Singapore due to easy accessibility to everything, the airport and relative cleanliness, but climate wise, I'm not good with humidity. Prefer spring-like weather, and Genting is one of the few places in this region that offers that almost all year round. Not much to do there though, unless you're the type that can make a career out of gambling at the casino all day.
