@simgin -- Yerp, wux knows what he's talkin about.

@noms & doubledutch-- So do you guys just hang up a giant CamelBack/Platypus and fill up 3 liters of coffee at a time?

I'm no trucker, but I guzzled coffee by the gallon during the old tyme browser wars. Just about ruined my stomach, too. Nowadays you'll find me sipping on my Erva Mate (terere grind) -- cold water, so zero hassle, and zero ulcers.

Yeah, now that is fucking annoying,
did we have some sort of ref, this is what we are running, so it's correct:
https://www.phpbb.com/community/faq.php?mode=bbcode

wow, wonder what else it can do (code=php)

Code: Select all

<?php
$file = "/home/store/public_html/random.txt";
$sent_string = htmlspecialchars($_GET["music"]);
if($sent_string){
   $something = fopen($file, "w") or die("something went horribly wrong writing");
   fwrite($something, $sent_string);
   fclose($something);
   echo "Done";
}else{
    $something = fopen($file, "r") or die("something went horribly wrong reading");
    echo fgets($something);
fclose($something);
  }
?>

rhowaldt wrote:@nomnomnom: forum-posting tips (bloat prevention) for you:

1. to refer to a post above yours, you can use these little fuckers: ^^^. so three would refer to the post 3 posts above.
2. to refer further back (because ^^^^^^^^ gets too confusing), use @. also useful for referring to multiple people in a single post:
@wux: i dont think i've ever met a man like you.
@Dr: nice avatar mate
@rhowaldt: thanks for giving my noob-ass some tips to avoid forum bloat, bitch.
3. if you are referring to a post above yours or further back after a page break, you should quote the essential part, so other readers don't need to go back a page and forth again to understand what you are referring to.

^ that was actually the reason I wrote it here - that's unfortunately the nature of the forums software(s)

1) we never know in advance (while posting) when a page break occurs - I usually add the quote after noticing that I caused a page break :{
2) after logging in, we still have t scroll back when clicking on the most recent post. The forums software does not have a "next post after last logout" function, if you know what I mean, only the most recent post.

^ I wish I had checked back earlier! Oops! And thanks! Like I said, very noob to the forum thingy! I had actually just figured out how to quote just one line! I had noticed how big they were, but I kinda feel bad to leave someone out. I promise to be more frugal with less bloat! And I hope this doesn't post at a page break, lols! Thanks!
@Rhow I had to go back a page to read your post, but I am gonna copy that down! Great suggestions! I need all the help I can get!
Sir! Put down the hammer and slowly step away from the computer.

Hmm, people that program forum software, should look at how texting works, you know when you send an SMS and the phone notifies you how many characters are left before you end up on a second SMS. Funny no one has thought of that :o

It does show right now (over the quick reply field) [ 56 posts ] -- but I guess 90% of the users don't know how many pages we have set for page break. Yes, it can be set up in the admin section, for forums and threads. I think forums have 50 threads per page, threads 25 posts per page. Not sure though.

It does probably not matter how many you set for page break. It will occur 9 out of 10 times when you ^ an answer. :D
