Hello from discord

Unread post by discord » Mon Feb 01, 2016 9:52 am

Hello from discord. Yes I am a discordian. I eat 1 hot dog no bun on Friday.

Someone asked me to post here in /dev/null. I found linuxBBQ today after looking for a live CD with many window managers. I appriciate this since I wanted to try out some new ones, but didn't want to muck with my other system. Anyhow so far it's working well for me. Since I run on an older laptop, maybe it's better to use this 686 kernel than amd64.

After I figure out which WMs I'm interested in, might want to keep this system around for awhile. Anyhow, looks like a bit of effort was spent putting things together. Thanks!

First up welcome. The thing you find about this community is the fun factor and what a wonderful operating system BBQ is. I use it daily and enjoy the fast systems I get to build myself. As you say you'll find the WM that suits you. Some people like a non-X environment others prefer X environment - the whole idea is you are served the basic "meat" to which you add the seasoning.

What impresses me most is the time taken by Machinebacon and community take to make the documentation up to date and simple to understand on how things work. Anyway glad your here, I know I am.:)

In BBQ, X11 is there to tun terminal apps in a graphical frame ;D

Welcome to the grill, let us know which WM you like (or dislike). We have some i3 users here, some wmutils fans (it is not on the Cream ISO because it actually is no window manager per se, but definitely worth trying if you are into configging), a few brave ones use real desktop environments, I am mostly on spectrwm, IIRC griller pidsley likes ratpoison and the very lean window managers.

Later you will anyway force yourself into visiting the BBQ Framebuffer Education Camp (that's actually about living one week in TTY and Framebuffer only). This will increase your Linuxing skills by 9000.

Have fun!

Wecome to the BBQ discord. I hope you will settle in well and have a generally good time. Read up on stuff in the documentation area, my favorite is the one about the BBQ philosophy. :) Oh yes, I nearly forgot, thanks for introducing yourself. :)

Welcome discord! If you'll spend time reading the how-tos, you'll learn more in one day at the BBQ than most users learn in a lifetime. Grill up :)
