Introductions siklopz
i don't know where to begin. i came here, because you experiment. i'm tired of hearing the average debian user "yell" stable, stable, stable...don't add that piece of software or it might crash your system. everyone thinks their Linux, WM, philosophy is best. i like to experiment. i'll try anything that comes to mind and if i fail or it blows up...cool, i learned something. i use the tool that fits what i'm doing...or my immediate whim. currently, i'm trying, and failing to install scid vs. pc from source on void linux
i usually run debian testing on my main box, but that's really just for browsing and multimedia (and testing software). most of my real fun is had on a couple of dell latitude 2100s,i found on ebay for next to nothing. i've run arch, manjaro openrc, fedora, void, freebsd, and most flavors of debian. manjaro is great for theme ideas.
other than that, i hike, cook, read, play in the dirt, and listen to music at least twice my age...i'm a pretty boring guy. i'll post a screenshot of my latest setup from void ASAP.

Should have made the box name "nsi" and the user "an" so it would say an@nsi.
I give to thee a personal quest: unplug your mouse for 48 hours to learn where the bloat lies.

I love it! Another breaker like me, but much smarter! That conky is cool! Have fun at the grill, dude! These guys will have you doing some pretty neat stuff (that I usually destroy, lols), and if you stick around and read the wiki and the forum you will be doing stuff with a keyboard and terminal that will thrill and amaze! Check out some of the scrots- especially the chef's (he likes doing stuff with no wm at all!) and you will get a good idea of the party you've walked into. I am the king of bloat :_( lols! It's a living :-)
Sir! Put down the hammer and slowly step away from the computer.
Re: Introductions siklopz
doubledutch, thanks for the username idea. i've installed adipositas and added spectrwm, with some baconator cofigs (until i learn to configure it myself), on another partition. that should help. much of the bloat in this void setup comes from my attempted source install of scid vs pc (the system was 4gb total, before that). i installed some dependencies, tcl and tk, from source, pretty quickly...then a library, that for some reason took 10 hours and three gigs, to install from source. i still can't quite get scid to install.
wuxmedia, it's a dell latitude 2100. 1.6ghz atom, with 2gb ram. it's my favorite machine to play and learn on. i have always wanted to try out linux on a ps2...ever since i learned you could multiplex them into a cheap supercomputer.
my favorite machine is a lenove s20-30. it's a low power dual-core, with a french keyboard layout (almost identical to US). i found it on the cheap, because no one likes them..."they run so slow on windows 8.1". so why the hell are you running effing windows on them? they run like a top, with linux installed.

Welcome Siklopz!
'and if i fail or it blows up...cool, i learned something.'
We all have that experience, putting stuff to the edge might end up with a big bang.
But that is part of the game :)
Have fun (that shouldn't be hard at this place).

doubledutch and franksinistra...
i've installed adipositas and spectrwm, and am trying to learn the ins and outs of a minimal setup. i'm reading man pages in my free time and learning this book (http://www.linuxcommand.org/tlcl.php). i'll try your method when i think i can handle it. my main system is bloated as hell, but i have no tv, and all of my music, etc. is run through my primary.
thanks all for the welcome guys.
