Pipe thread

There's a number of pipe smokers around the grill, so why not show off your puffers and what you've been stuffing them with.

I'm starting the day with a Stanwell year pipe from 1996. The stuffing is my trusty Orlik Golden Sliced. The zippo in the shot is engraved with the ASP (alt.smokers.pipes) logo.

I still have one around that's made by myself. Back in the day I worked at Goedewaagen (Blue Delft factory) so it was very easy to obtain. As an employee there was a nice discount :)

Haven't been smoking for a while (simply no time, and if, it's just a small bowlful). The small Capitello Sport is my sample pipe for new Englishes, the straight Chinese cheapo pipe is reserved only for sampling Virginias. My fave pipe is the Peterson with army mount.
Didn't put the Czech tools and lighters and bowl cleaners on the photo, maybe next time :)

I replaced the stem of my MM Legend corn cob with a new Danish bit filled with some Dunhill EMP.

Recently I bought a new cob, an MM Dark Egg.

I already posted this beauty, an Italian Passatore 9 mm filter pipe, though I never use filters but that is what we have here in Germany.

This one is my very first pipe, MB can remember, a Dutch Hilson designed by Rainer Barbi before he died.

The next one is a cheap but nice Jean Claude, a very affordable pipe that just smokes perfectly.

Awesome stuff lads. It's great to see a little briar popping up.

Here's a W. Ø. Larsen "Double Black" from 2002 that's currently getting the golden sliced treatment. A chubby little thing with a medium sized bowl that I've found works wonderfully well with lightly rubbed or even just folded flakes.

I do like the rusticated finish, but I'm just as happy with a smooth finish. As long as they smoke well, it's all good. As far as Danish pipes go, it's just what I've had available to me. I do have a bunch from Peterson, Kaywoodie, Savinelli and a few others, but I think the majority are Stanwells from around 1980 onwards.

Here's a Stanwell Duet model 32 (the classic bulldog shape) partially rusticated.

A Royal Danish model 53 smooth billiard. The Royal Danish brand is a part of the Stanwell household. I don't know if Royal Danish is still around, but Stanwell used to put this brand on pipes that didn't clear the QA for the main Stanwell lines.

Yet more Golden Sliced in this one. This pouch is almost empty, then it's onwards to something a little more stout.

I've filled a Stanwell that I think qualifies as a 1/4 bent rusticated apple. It's a pipe at any rate, with some Orlik Dark Kentucky. If I remember correctly it used to be called Dark Strong Kentucky. I'm guessing the "strong" moniker no longer applies given the punch of some of the newer blends out there.

It's some really nice stuff. Note, the blend is actually stuffed into the tin in flake form, but I tend to rub this stuff to get rid of some moisture a bit quicker.

I have never tried Orlik DSK, but I like a couple of other Dark Kentucky blends:

1. MacBaren HH Old Dark Fired. Virginia and dark-fired Kentucky. I have the flake form, but it also comes as a ready-rubbed.

MacB also now as a "Bold Kentucky" blend, but I have not tried it.

2. Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Kentucky. Nothing but dark-fired Kentucky in a fine shag cut. I really like this one.

The Orlik blend is still called "Dark Strong Kentucky" here -- but I think recent EU regulations may have made them take "strong" out of the name.
