Mastodon
I got in, you can find me on this instance: https://functional.cafe/@manuel_uberti
(a colleague put it up, so I left mastodon.social and moved to this one because I am a kind person)
I've always considered Twitter for news and chats on cinema and IT. Lately is more chat about nothing at all. So I gave Mastodon a try and so far I like it.

Re: Mastodon
I only just got the hang of twitter.
Re: Mastodon
^ I know :)
It's also the same for all the film critics/bloggers I follow on Twitter.

^ Oh, now you got me thinking. :)
Thing is I never used Twitter and never understood the concept of it, at least not for my personal use.

^ I know what you mean.
It's kinda weird talking to anyone - pretty good newstream and mostly, depending on who you follow, It seems to generate content. as in 'i saw that funny gif/joke on twitter last night'

Re: Mastodon
I use Twitter to follow Clojurists and film critics mainly. I find it easier to be up to date this way, and more often than not something interesting about functional programming or cinema have been coming from Twitter.
Only problem is lately it's been more of a boredom than something useful. That's why I moved to Mastodon.
And yes, the 500 characters limit means I can write more interesting stuff to myself. ;-)

Cool, and I always thought I'm the only person in the world who has no idea what 'twitter' is about - seriously :)ivanovnegro wrote: ↑Wed Apr 26, 2017 3:55 pmThing is I never used Twitter and never understood the concept of it, at least not for my personal use.
Just wanted to make Manu happy, so there I am. At least there's an emacs frontend to mastodon. Ha, the first time I read "mastodon' I thought of some colon cancer medicine.

Re: Mastodon
Mastodon seems like a much saner place than twitter, but i don't have time to maintain it (unwieldy, basically what Wux or Ivan said).
I'll stick to the old way and just bookmark your mastodon page and other grillers. :)
Who knows... i might find gold like this one:

Re: Mastodon
Very nice of you sir B! There is also a metal band named Mastodon. Will check this new thing up of course, but at the moment I am a bit tired of social media. Must admit though that it looks interesting. :)machinebacon wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2017 10:35 amJust wanted to make Manu happy, so there I am. At least there's an emacs frontend to mastodon. Twitter on the other hand is some sort of insane sanity, and when I think about world leaders that makes Twitter an important channel for their political messages... :((

Re: Mastodon
I made an account because I was bored. Now I just cannot remember where exactly. You should find me. I still have no clue about the Twitter thing but who knows. At least Mastodon is not Twitter.
Re: Mastodon
Turns out I am not really that "social" so I'm already leaving this behind.

Re: Mastodon
:) I did not even give it a chance. In reality I already forgot about it after I made the account. Though I have no time to be that social.

Re: Mastodon
My favorite instances were witches.academy (got deleted because of drama) and functional.cafe... because of liveliness and because of GekkoP/Mr. B, respectively.
Now my favorite instance is probably infosec.exchange... if this is what Twitter is like, even remotely, then Twitter isn't so great. The Amaroq client suuuuuuucks

Re: Mastodon
HAHA, i feel the same, I have an hour or so in bed for snarky twitter comments and a passive read of my feed.
