The DUR is coming

Unread post by ivanovnegro » Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:24 pm

https://dur.hunterwittenborn.com/

The link says it all. Maybe in the future we will see an AUR like thing for Debian. It is of course called DUR, the Debian User Repository.
I am not sure about this but I do not think it is a bad idea per se. Though I would rather see more packages going into main instead to a third party, at least when the program is open source.

Yeah, not a bad idea, but not sure I'd use it over simply building from source. The AUR has always been a double-edge sword. An absolute haven for new/useful/obscure software, but at the same time an utter cesspool of broken/unmaintained/undocumented crapware.

Besides, can't the OBS work on Debian? Personally never tried it. There are also others, like Pacstall, though I can't remember if that's for Debian or Ubuntu.

Meh, more choice is good. So,... yay?
