BLACK SEA: despite Jude Law's funny accent and Tyres from SPACED (I cannot watch him without laughing), the film lacks the proper tension a claustrophobic setting like that of a submarine can naturally deliver.

THE INTERNSHIP: well, how could I have missed this one? Not that it is particularly brilliant, but the Emacs joke was a pleasure.

Tromeo and Juliet

A bit of history on Troma is almost required to make sense of this. Troma Entertainment is one of the more notable independent studios in the US, and is known for producing a very long list of 'Z-rated' movies. If punk film-making had to have a showpiece, I'd say that Troma was it. I have watched a ton of their comedy/horror pieces, and without fail you can expect overt sexuality, over the top drug references, politically incorrect humor, and offensive low-budget gore.

That being said, I'd not yet given this one a shot because I just didn't see how the studio doing a retelling of Shakespeare's overdone work could be good. I was wrong, as it's actually pretty enjoyable. Within the first 5 minutes, I realized that this was probably one of the films that they really cared about, because despite the extremely low budget and the fact that it's offensive in a ton of directions, that the spirit of the original play was still there. (T)Romeo is a hopeless romantic, Juliet is a air-headed dreamer, etc.

If you're up for something that is as far from Hollywood as possible, then I'd actually recommend this one. I can see how lots of people would hate it, but there's something about the rawness of it that I find really special.

My favorite Troma is:
The Toxic Avenger
BTW... Kevin Costner started with Troma.

THE TECHNICIANS: poor South Korean action-comedy. When bad Hollywood meets dull k-pop this is what happens.
TWO MEN IN TOWN: Whitaker and Keitel get old but still shine. Great movie.

PADDINGTON: funny, somehow eco-friendly British comedy. The kid in me always loves this kind of adventures.

"The Adventures of Rocky & Bullwinkle" a great laugh about RBTV (really bad tv), a bit childish yes, but made with a grat humour.

Die Wahrheit der Lüge

Some films make you ask the really important questions. In this case the question is "What the hell is wrong with you Germans?" It takes a special film to make extended torture scenes seem classy and not the least bit scary. I guess that makes this a special film, but where 'special' doesn't mean particularly entertaining. It's probably just more artistic than I'm able to appreciate. :)

Alien Vs Predator

Already more than 10 years old. I avoided it when it came out in 2004 because I love Aliens and Predator way too much to care about a mix with both creatures. I know an Alien skull shows up in Predator 2, but Predator 2 is so poor I couldn't care less about that skull.
However, I watched AVP out of curiosity yesterday. Slightly better than Predator 2, but I should've gone to sleep earlier instead of watching Predators and Aliens killing each other in dumb action scenes.

BLACKHAT
They will never get IT right in movies, won't they? I mean, except from Hackers of course. Jokes aside, this latest Mann only proved that after The Insider (one of my top favorite of all time, by the way) I can't never like another Mann as much again.

Good old Rutger. Better than Predator 2.

I thought "Sneakers" was pretty good. With Redford as far as IT movies goes.

Watched Noah last night, amazed it's by Aaronofsky.
It was OK, didn't make much sense. But was OK.

^^ not the first Aronofsky that doesnt seem to make much sense - remember The Fountain? have yet to watch Noah, as i just like everything Mr Aronofsky does, to an extent.

^ Agreed - Yeah "the fountain" didn't come with 2000+ or so years of cultural baggage as a story.
Noah was just weird, would have probably been a good story if it wasn't 'Noah'
