Absolute Anything
Last Terry Jones', which I skipped when it came out because the reviews destroyed it. Fuck the reviews, though. It's by no means a great film, but it's fun if you go along with it. Sometimes, I don't need too much.

Watched "Wind River" again last night. Great thriller drama if you like that kind of stuff.

^ It is, but it's also wrong in many ways and probably something I'll never watch again. Still, on that night, just the right thing. :)

Leviathan
The 2012 documentary. The better half is more of a Melville fan than I am so we had to watch this. No whale in it, unfortunately. Jokes aside, I can see the point and I can see the dirt, but I don't see myself going through this ever again.

The Human Centipede

Now, I know people throw around titles such as A Serbian Film when it comes to extreme flicks, but nobody tops Pasolini's Salò when it comes to disturbing images. The difference is simple: Pasolini was not looking for nerds' stamp of approval, and that's why I love Salò and despise a thing such as A Serbian Film. The Human Centipede falls in the middle, I guess: it's gruesome but never struggles to be your next favourite cult film. It's honest in this regard, something I can appreciate.

Pasolini's film is on my list and while A Serbian Film is really unpleasant to watch it is so wrong on so many levels that I do not even know where to begin with. I would already criticize the title of the movie itself. To me it pretends to tell me more (a deeper story) than what they show me on screen. I get that Spasojević had no money and there is a hidden social commentary about Serbian postwar society but he disappoints and fails in my opinion. If you want to see a great Serbian film and maybe stay within this theme or even genre you have to go elsewhere. For example Pretty Village, Pretty Flame by Dragojević. In Serbia it is already a cult film and depicts very well the Serbian side in the Yugoslav conflicts in the 90s. Though both directors have the same first name.

Thank you for reminding me of Pasolini.

The Human Centipede 2
Gratuitously sick and Tom Six's pretty happy about it. Do not watch it while eating, ça va sans dire.

The Human Centipede 3
Six twists his monster with black comedy but does it work? Not particularly, unless you consider dried clitorises, Bree Olson, and brutal violence your cup of tea.

I've not been writing much about cinema this year due to little spare time for writing such things and even less inspiring cinema on my screen. I did publish this today though: https://www.filmsinwords.eu/cinephilia/ ... e-won.html

It's about Marco Bellocchio's Vincere, and if "fascism" and "cult of personality" scare you as they scare me, give this film a try. I am glad UK's Artificial Eye made a Blu-ray for it.

Thanks for the write up GekkoP, always a pleasure to read. :)

Watched "Another Round" by Thomas Winterberg yesterday. With Mads Mikkelsen in the lead. I am not sure what to think about it, great acting and all that, but it made me feel uneasy.

Maybe that was the whole point of it?

^ Thank you for the taking the time of reading my stuff. :)

Britney vs Spears
I know little of her music, although I remember Blackout and I dug what Harmony Korine did her songs, so I know little about her private issues. This documentary does shine some light on that and, if everything's here is true, what a story.

No Time to Die
Back in a proper movie theatre after a long while just for 007. Some casting choices and the cinematography during the melodramatic scenes don't work on me, but the rest is good enough to close the Craig-era in a good way and prove, again, that his Bond really rules.

Watched "Reprise" by Joachim Trier yesterday. It were a good reminder for me to why it still is worth to keep on trying to get good movie experience.

Lucky
Nice variation on the slasher genre.

Zeros and Ones
Late Ferrara doesn't always get to me, but as with every film of his, this demands more attention from me.

Old
Good old Shyamalan, what can I say, I like the guy.

Halloween Kills
Didn't really work for me, but there is something to appreciate here.

Raging Fire
Thank you for everything, Benny Chan.

Coming Home in the Dark
Ivan, you know what to do.

Adrienne

Now, I love Adrienne Shelly. Well, at least as much as one can with a person they never met but whose efforts mean a lot to them. This documentary is true and sad at the same time, obviously, and I am sure re-connecting with the woman you were supposed to live all your life with can be a way to overcome painful memories, traumas, etc.

Still, I found it hard to believe. I don't want to sound mean here, I am sorry she left a husband and a kid behind, but sometimes the documentary seems to care more about giving us the perfect image of Shelly which is not really needed since this is a fans-only film anyway, despite the intention stated at the beginning to have something to remember her by. Aren't her films enough already to remember her by? When I want Shelly I have Waitress and her films with Hal Hartley, evergreen heart-breakers for me.

I guess eventually the documentary will have some use for her family. It's understandable.

Anyway, all hail Adrienne Shelly.
