Not many great releases, but so much from the past I ended up appreciating and re-appreciating.

Latest Von Trier sneaked in before the end of 2018. Intellectual masturbation that bored the hell out of me.

I tried my best with Man of Steel and Batman V Superman. A painful experience.

TBH, I read some appreciation on BVS, and it tickled my curiosity hard enough to make me want to give it a try. I thought I needed some context, so I started with MoS to have a better understanding of the characters involved.

Never again.

MoS was very mediocre. I only really recall Costner's performance there. haven't seen the other one.

Quick notes:

- Hal Hartley means a lot to me now: Fay Grim is a film I'd pick whenever asked to name one that describes my taste
- The restored version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is unreasonably great
- The Cohen restoration of Griffith's Intolerance is unreasonably great
- Tol'able David is the first tragedy in the history of cinema and if you love cinema you should stop reading and go watch it
- I still think I didn't get The Maltese Falcon as I was supposed to
- Bringing Up Baby is still funny and still a masterpiece
- Blowing Wild is still a masterpiece

^ To add something more useful:

- I got the Masters of Cinema UK blu-ray of Intolerance, and its packed with extras and goodies as it's the fabulous standard of the MoC series. It's so amazing a film 100-plus years old can still be so powerful and rich. Not sure cinema has ever gone this far ever since, which is a testament to Griffith genius beyond the controversy of The Birth of a Nation.

- I got the 40th anniversary UK blu-ray of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. This too is packed with extras, and the restored version looks incredible as I was saying above. This is still, and by far, my favourite horror film, but I had it buried in the back of head, so much as to generally forget about it when I've found myself in film discussions in the last years. It's been hidden in my heart for so long, and I did believe The Exorcist, Rosemary's Baby and The Prince of Darkness were the new kings of my horror tastes. But then this came about, and well, the madness and the relentless tension are still so incredibly powerful. I love other Hooper's too, with the sequel being one of the most audacious tricks a director has ever did in my book, but this gritty tale of nonsensical violence will always scare the hell out of me.

Never saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Maybe I will give it a go. Probably because I never recognized slashers to be a thing for me.

^ I'm not even that much into horror anymore, honestly. The slasher genre is a bit silly usually, aside from some masters like Hooper and Carpenter.

Widely unpopular opinion: I enjoyed the first Transformers more than all the superheroes films I've seen combined. And it sure made me want to go on with the next chapters. Freaking Michael Bay. His cinema is nuts, and I usually don't like it, but with a Stella Artois and a bad day at work there I am, cheering at giant robots and explosions. What a kid.

Everybody of us has secret movies we won't tell we watch. :) Let me think of one.

^ Well, excluding classic Italian porno for my teen days (VHS from who knows where), I'm pretty much telling you guys everything I watch. I honestly avoid Bay because is a bit too on the patriotic side for me, and giant robots are good only where they come from Japan usually.

^ Nevertheless, I went with the second chapter last night, Revenge of the Fallen. Which was not as good as the first, ruined by too much military power and silly humour (high-on-weed mom!? gangsta-robots?).

Three films left. I'm doing it for you, guys.
