Last night it was time for Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Better than the second chapter, pretty much on the same page as the first one. Everything here seems to pave the way for the last 45 (!) minutes of massive destruction. Not sure what to make of this, though.

Fortunately, Josef Von Sternberg put me back on my tracks for great cinema: "Morocco" last night was just outstanding.

This weekend I have watched two movies, both ok time wasting entertainement. "Gone Girl" is a thriller drama about a wife that goes missing...then there was "What Happened To Monday", a dystopain sience fiction about an overcrowded earth. A bit simple, but...

I'm still in my Von Sternberg loop. His works with Marlene Dietrich are so great I can't be possibly bothered with what's out there in cinemas these days.

Unpopular opinion: I can't laugh with Jerry Lewis.

^ Me neither I think. In fact I cannot even remember watching seriously a movie where he was in.
But then I am not that into laughing when I want to watch something.

^ I laugh, but only when the comedy really gets to me. Bringing Up Baby makes me laugh, Chaplin makes me laugh. Carlo Vanzina makes me vomit. :)

Some rambling about my favourite horror director: https://www.filmsinwords.eu/cinephilia/ ... ooper.html

(Along with Romero and Carpenter, I might say.)

^ Always a pleasure. Despite spending way too much time on Letterboxd comments, that blog is still my favourite place to ruminate about cinema.

I really wasn't expecting it, but Domino, the latest work from master De Palma, is pretty solid and overall great. 78 and still doing his thrillers like a maverick. What a man.

Essential story, decent documentary.

Finally got to see The Beach Bum. It may not be the best Korine's, but frankly, this is my Big Lebowski.

Shyamalan is not exactly a favourite of mine, but the Unbreakable trilogy impressed me even more on a second viewing. I wrote something about Glass, the third chapter, but if you haven't seen it yet and you intend to, postpone the read because it's not spoiler free.

I did not know about the sequels.

^ They are all pretty different from each other. Split is more horror oriented, and IIRC it's the only superhero film totally centred on the villain. Glass is a complete twist on the superhero cinematic genre, an unpopular approach (well, within the framework of a director that always aims for popular works) to say the least.

I figured there were going to be sequels. I'd forgotten about them though. Might check them out on-call this weekend

The American is one hell of a film I skipped for no good reason whatsoever back when it came out. Yes, including the body of Violante Placido of course.

Watched the new Dumbo, I thought it was pretty good. not outstanding - at least (I suppose like Burton's Alice in wonderland) at least he told a different story. I think I liked the not quite 'this is a musical' aspect of it, meaning they kept the songs to a minimum. There were somethings which didn't make any sense to the story but got screen time - like the relationship of the French lady apparently beholden to Keaton's ringmaster, which just didn't pan out into any meaningful way (like he could have been paying to look after her sick mother or something) Anyway the kids sat through it (at home) and everyone else enjoyed it - that was it's main function :)

I finally found Cattle Queen of Montana, so I got the pleasure to appreciate Ronald Reagan's fine acting skills (...). Well, Stanwyck is the Queen here, and she could've managed without Reagan's support to be honest.
