Got Manhunter on Blu-ray as a kind of Christmas present for myself. The UK version I got has both the theatrical cut and the director's one, so I'm happy.

Also, a couple of minutes of this film are worth the entire Hannibal series, and in terms of comparison with The Silence of the Lambs the older I get the more I prefer Manhunter.

Watched Robert Aldrich's What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?. I enjoyed the movie but I would not consider it a master piece.

After Tommaso, I finally watched Siberia, two of the most recent Abel Ferrara's efforts.

As much as I love this director, I have to say these didn't really hit me as I was expecting.

Really good. despite obvious anachronisms. just a decent movie. told the tale and didn't lead me anywhere that i didn't need to go.
"daddy, where is the colour? I want my iPad and Paw Patrol..." kids eh?

very slowly re-watching LoTRs in the #home cinema - still cried at most of it :) I hear tell of a remastered 4k version - where just the textures had been re-rendered (much mutterings about Star Wars 'special editions' ) some of the effects are pretty clear, but... attention to detail (despite derivations from the book) it's an awesome ride even 20 years old Gollum still looks awesome and well acted.
And how am I going to bore my wife when something happens and I all like - "Well Ackchyually in the book...Aragorn keeps the shards of Narsil as his daily driver to kill the ne'erdowells of the north as a Dunedin until it is finally remade as Andúril before setting out on the Quest of the Fellowship"
Or 'that's Ackchyually Tom Bombadil's line' Or Faramir wasn't quite such an arse as the movie makes out (I forgive them though as he get's Eowyn's hand in marriage)
or yes Tolkien did seem a little uncharacteristically feminist giving Eowyn such a prominent role - even though Arwen was not really a thing at all in 'the book' no it wasn't Arwen but Glorfindel at the crossing of Ford of Bruinen to rivendell (or at least his Horse Asfaloth)

The Insider

I don't think there is a single Michael Mann's I dislike, but having this finally on Blu-ray is beyond amazing. The Blu-ray disc is region free, but the cost for the US import was, well, let's just say I won't be ordering pizza for a couple of weeks. Who cares, I wouldn't be a collector if I wasn't ready to spend, would I?

There was a time when one day of the week was for bad movies just for the laughs. The "bad meaning good" was this for me. Then I found better ways to spend the evenings. :)

"Death To 2020" a satirical look on last year. A Netflix film, not very funny, but it has it ´s moments. Probably because there were a lot of satirical shit going on for real.

"What They Had", about getting old, dementia, how it affects the family, and the general challenges of life for young people too. A good movie about real people.

^ I still won't get that year 2020 shit. 2021 is even worse where I am and that from the very beginning. Will we now get this every year? I say death to that shit!

"Olive Kitteridge" is called a film, but comes as a mini series on HBO. Francis McDormand is perfect for the role as Olive. Based on a novel with the same name. The good acting makes it worth it, not much happens really, it is more about the inner life of people.

Finally I had some more time for Nouvelle vague. Éric Rrohmer's La collectionneuse is a good film. Not the best I have seen and also somehow strange but nevertheless fascinating and it makes you think. It is worth it.

I knew nothing about DelGaudio (and I still don't know anything, TBH), but I was half impressed half hard to convince by this. Something new, at least.

Bamboozled

One of the best Spike Lee for yours truly. Its urge to yell is something Lee's later career will forget.

The Quiet Ones

Scary enough, but Cooke and Harris are way too good compared the others here.

The weirdest thing happened to me this morning. I was next to my grandma and Alex l'Ariete was on the telly. One of the ugliest Italian films ever made, good for laughs if you're into pure trash, in a moment when really there wasn't much to laugh about.

Who needs drugs when these things can happen, I wonder. Life is a mystery.
