Instantly fell in love with it - a collection of plugins for vim. I had to use the direct link to install, like this:

Code: Select all

curl https://raw.github.com/spf13/spf13-vim/3.0/bootstrap.sh -L -o - | sh
Needs git installed, and of course vim.
That's a good find. Thanks for sharing.

@tim: yes, there is only one problem: they have not yet provided the live-config scripts, else I would have used that for the BBQ spins. But installing afterwards should be possible. Any volunteers?

More vim goodness to come, now in the repos:

https://github.com/tpope/vim-fugitive

A Git wrapper so awesome, it should be illegal. :)

Just as i've gotten used to typing apt-get whatever (on servers without nice .bash_aliases files)

yep, we are now on apt 1.0! FYI, if you follow that blog and enable the progress bar, add a semicolon at the end.

A fancy progress bar .. It's like an all new app.

The challenge .. omitting -get -cache etc. I rarely alias anything so there's some muscle memory to combat.

Just for fun, was trying the 3.14 kernel from experimental and removing it again just like 3.13, at the moment nothing above 3.12 plays nicely on my laptop.

Apt in action, fancy:

I have two cores, does that matter with 486? I am beginning to feel noobish now. :)

Firefox 29 has been released, with the new Chrome-ish interface. Functions well, and even seems faster than the previous version, at least on the Macs.

screen has caused me quite a lot of $TERM problems sshing into various machines, badly fixed by export TERM=xterm.
might have to switch to tmux if i can work out the mouse c/p (never seems to work right, have to hit shift to c/p)

well, a bit - it now allows longer $TERM definitions so using urxvt which should, I think, be - rxvt-unicode-256color, I just put urxvt, irrc.
Slightly irrelevant because I don't think the network manager would really compile the latest screen for that.
more of a random rant about $TERM actually...
