I think because of the Kylin integration, you are now able to put the bar even on standard Ubuntu at the bottom.

^ lol, it was one of the first things I changed back again to default Ubuntu style. I have absolutely no problem with the vertical launcher, and my screen is anyway a bit wider than high, so putting the panel back to the left actually gave me more screen estate. Ah, I won't use that fucker anyway :D

I would also use the bar on the side. There is just no point using that thing on the bottom on Unity. It feels so wrong. :)
